Mrs. Matstone Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Twas the night before we were scheduled to leave for our little weekend vacation and I was dying to get me some big greenies. We hit one of my favorite local honeyholes that I have not been to in a while, Hidden Lake. We arrived to find the water pretty muddy and high and I was not sure why this was because we have not really had any rain. I started off targeting the back side of the lake which is my favorite. It is full of stumps and weedbeds. I was not having much luck just off the shoreline so I decided to venture out a bit where the water was a little deeper. About 9 - 10 ft. Max. I had on a rage tail lizard again and was doing a little bit of vertical jiggin off the side of the boat near some down trees. I pick up a few fish here and lost a few others too. This is one of them. It sure was nice to get a big greenie again. Last but not least the day for our little vacation was finally here. It was time to head up to the 1000 islands and hopefully find the time to do some fishing on the St. Lawrence. I headed up early Saturday morning with one of the kids and Matt was to follow later on in the day with the other one of the girls. Well Madison and I arrived early and did some weeding in the garden and then it was time to have some fun. We started off doing a little of this and boy was did we have fun. [img width=262 height=350]http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb145/matstone7/P1000689r.jpg Next morning I woke early in hopes of doing some fishing. Needless to say I had to wait for the rest of my crew to arise. So I poured a cup of coffee and headed out the door to watch the fog lift. What a great quiet morning it was. [img width=350 height=262]http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb145/matstone7/P1000737a.jpg We hooked up the boat and headed out. Here we are all ready to go.. [img width=350 height=262]http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb145/matstone7/P1000742a.jpg Naturally we did what the kids wanted to do most of the day but we sure had alot of fun doing it. Here is my oldest daughter and I. [img width=350 height=262]http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb145/matstone7/NJ91tube.jpg Then finally it was time for mom and dad to do what we liked too. We did manage a few smallies or at least I did. Here are a few. [img width=245 height=350]http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb145/matstone7/M95sm1.jpg [img width=262 height=350]http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb145/matstone7/P1000681a.jpg [img width=262 height=350]http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb145/matstone7/N94sm1.jpg And this one is my favorite. [img width=306 height=350]http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb145/matstone7/N94sm3.jpg So yes you guessed it I am still loving the Lizard. Mrs. Matstone Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 Thanks guys we all had a great time. It is funny how you don't always realize how much you miss that "fun time" with your kids until you have it again. I forgot this one... We parked the boat at the nature center and it seems that my youngest has grown a little since the last time she was here. She is now between a red tail hawk and an osprey. My how the time flies.. ;D Looks like you and the family had a great weekend. I love the pictures, thanks for sharing. Mrs M, do you and Mr M ever have a bad day? It seems like you two tear it up no matter where you fish. Rondef their are plenty of times that I am skunked on the water.. ;D The 1000 Islands is a wonderful place, especially for a family vacation; Easy to keep everyone happy. And the fishing opportunities are phenomenal. I do miss it. Your right their are alot of things for the whole family up there. This is what I like most about the place. As for the fishing, it is a huge place. This time I fished mostly the bluffs. It was kind of windy and a little tough to control the boat there. I think a smaller boat may be a good bet on a nice calm day. ;D Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted September 8, 2008 Super User Posted September 8, 2008 Yeah, it's big water that can get a little too big, regardless of the craft at times. What I always enjoyed, besides the varied fishing, was the happy vacation spirit of virtually everyone. Thanks for sharing yours. Quote
Paul Naj Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Great job, Mrs M. Be careful, those smallmouths can be addictive. ;-) Quote

thetr20one Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Awesome post!! And I do believe that is the first pic of a goby I have seen on this site. Does hubby ever get a bit jealous that you out fish him often? Well in his defense he is more of a multi-species angler I think. All your post have been fantasitic with a family oriented story line. great stuff Mrs. Matsone. But could you please post the pic of you fishing the house that fell into the creek? I tried to find to show a friend and I just couln't find it. Quote

I tried to find to show a friend and I just couln't find it. He is not really jealous. We have a good time when we go out fishing. He does hold his own very well too. As for the pic of the house that fell in the creek. That is what I call structure.. ;D It never hurts to try. Here you go. Quote
