c17Lat Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Main line tied to 3-way swivel which is tied to a buzzbait, and spinnerbait. just trying new ideas that will eventually lead to catching more fish hopefully. If i don't get the lines tangled on the cast, I think it will work. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 7, 2008 Super User Posted November 7, 2008 I can't see how that wouldn't tangle on the cast. Also, that's going to require a pretty sturdy rod with all the resistance it is going to create. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 x2- that thing is gunna tangle in a major way. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 7, 2008 Super User Posted November 7, 2008 Totally impractical. Buzzbaits and spinnerbaits get tangled up all the time, fished alone. : Quote
SimonSays Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 It'll be like picking out a backlash every cast Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 7, 2008 Super User Posted November 7, 2008 Try it and give us an honest report on how it worked. Quote
mattm Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 The spinnterbait is going to add a lot of additional weight making it difficult, if not impossible to keep the buzzbait on top. At least thats whay I think. Quote
TrippyJai Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 The spinnterbait is going to add a lot of additional weight making it difficult, if not impossible to keep the buzzbait on top. At least thats whay I think. I was thinking the same thing thats the spinnerbait will make it hard for the buzzbait to stay on top. Quote
bigfruits Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 i dont think it will work, but im curious to hear how it worked. a better double lure rig might be a dropshot/jig (shakey?) Quote
Super User Micro Posted November 8, 2008 Super User Posted November 8, 2008 Just get yourself some of these. Sebile Proppler Buzz... Quote
mattm Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Micro, Have you fished that yet? I've been wondering about them. Quote
Super User Micro Posted November 9, 2008 Super User Posted November 9, 2008 No I haven't, but I plan getting a few and trying them. Quote
The Rooster Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 To the original poster, if you try this, I'd use a spinnerbait with either a single or double willow blades only so there's less resistance. This way it would make keeping the buzzbait on top easier. Also you might try it with a high speed retrieve reel like a 7.1:1 ratio so it's even easier to keep the buzzbait up. Faster reeling seems to help me keep them on top and with the added weight you're going to need it. And lastly, casting a double lure like that might exceed the limits of the rod if you don't watch what weight lures you use. Two 1/4 oz baits would probably be the best choice so you don't go over any weight limits of the rod. That would only be 1/2 oz. that way which most medium rods can take, and definitely a medium heavy can handle. Also lighter weight baits will make it easier again to keep the buzzbait on top. That's all I have to add to it. Good luck trying it. Overcoming the tangling issue will be the hardest part. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted November 10, 2008 Super User Posted November 10, 2008 If the baits don't tangle on the cast you'll have problems on the retrieve. In order to keep the buzzbait on the top you'll have to reel so quickly that the spinnerbait will rise up right at the surface and probably get it's blades tangled in the buzzbaits drop line. Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted November 10, 2008 Super User Posted November 10, 2008 yeah....don't think it's a practical design....good idea in theory but not so good in practice Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Its probably not going to work, but keep up the creativity and maybe you will discover something good Quote
flatbass Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 A few years ago I fished a carolina rig with a dropshot tied on above the weight. Worked good too but I finally gave it up because it would get tangled about every third cast. I think this will be the same way. Quote
