Dude I must be on a Lake Fork quality school!!! Today my nephew gets to spend the night so after he finished his homework I took him to my honey hole with the plan on getting him his first quality bass. I usually fish in the morning but was just to tired this morning so it worked out great with taking him this evening.

When we got there somebody was there fishing (shockingly) and I saw three trails for fish in a spot that used to produce well for me, but as of late had slowed. I looked down the trail and see him where I landed yesterdays haul. My nephew and I worked our way down the trail with no bites and we stoped at a location that I use as a meet point and gear drop off. I was very focused on helping my nephew today, and I was trying to help him cast and plain just not hook himself sometimes (I'm sure we have all been there with young ones). Then the gentelmen starts walking back to the location he caught the other fish. He stoped and said hi and he showed my nephew his bass that he'd caught. I told him about the draining of the pond and he was shocked as well. We went our seperate ways and to myself I'm thanking the lord he has left this spot with only fishing a buzz bait there. Not to mention see the bass busting up about 15 yds north of his former location. So I went over to the spot I caight the fish yesterday and threw 3 casts and couldn't stand to stay there any longer because pf the action 15yds north of my location. So I have my nephew come and take my spot and I top him throw at these spots with that buzz frog over and over again. I made my way to a spot that with a VERY VERY long cast (thank god for braid) that allowed me to reach to where the action was and get 6-7 yds of open watter until it hit the moss mat. It took one cast I repeat one cast and I saw a small little splash and after a 2-3 second count I set the hook. The fish was a tank and I just started running backwards because I just plain had to so I could get it on top of the mat. I get him in and I'm yelling at my nephew bring the CAMERA it's a big one. Then the next thing I know the gentelmen from before comes on over to :o the fish as well :D. Who I then refered to this this site of course. Then the only problem came when the camera was foggind up due to high humidity. So I did put the fish on a stringer (not threw the gills) with the hope of taking more pics. I would have never done this but they are DRAINING it I keep telling myself. Plus my nephew doesn't seem to understand the catch and release idea yet. So here are the photos of this one.

After this guy I took my nephew right to a point that was 15 yds further north that I thought might allow him to be able to work with his spining reel (with braid). He just couldn't cast far enough and that's my fault because it wasn't spooled up all the way. After some time passes I keep seeing fish blow up at the same spot i was just at. I then put on one of my other spro fogs on his rod and tell him to throw it as far as he can and bounce the rod tip up and down to get some action. I was REALLY hopeful he'd land something and I worked hard trying to get it set up for him. I finally couldn't stand it any longer and went back to that spot that only my long casts could reach and on the very first cast back at that spot I had another small splash. The light was low and I looked reel hard for my frog because I thought me missed if and I didn't want to yank it away and miss a follow up strike. Then I FEEL the fish and set the hook hard!! I did the same routine running up the hill and landed this puppy!!

Then the great hope I had and part of the reason I went ahead put the other on stringer (again not in the gills).

So wow it's been a great two days and now my right hand is killing me!! BTW the first fish was just over 6lbs and the second fish is going to be called a 7lber by me. I have a 50lb analog scale (my friend and I share a digital in his boat) and it's hard to get a great read on. The right most part of the dial was hitting 7lbs and after measurements I had taken the weight caculator here said it was a little over 7lbs. So I'm happy and now I just need somebody to hold my fish for me the next couple weeks any volunterrs??? ;D ;D

You have just created a lifetime of memories for your nephew.

Especially when you were running backwards.

Trip makes for some great stories at future family gatherings.  :)

Thanks for all the great words guys it means allot. I'm starting to hear one of the local bass clubs is trying to organize something to get the bigger fish out. I'm going to try and get in touch with them and see if I can't volunteer my time to help in whatever fashion they might need. So it's great we can get some of these hogs out for sure and I guess the plus side is Crab Orchard lake should recieve a shot of good Bass genes. The bad side is obvouisly this pond has the perfect conditions to produce monster bass and even after being refilled and stocked it may never get back to this. Meanwhile I'm goint to fish it until my thumb falls off! :D
