Super User fishinfiend Posted August 23, 2008 Super User Posted August 23, 2008 Congratulations!!! What did you catch it on? Quote
JShrock07 Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Nice pic!!! I'm in no way trying to tell you how to handle your fish but holding it with a pair of pliers could really hurt it!! Quote
kickbasskid Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 I caught it on my never fail watermelon colored worm with neon green tail. The pliers were all I had I couldn't find my gloves. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 23, 2008 Super User Posted August 23, 2008 I caught it on my never fail watermelon colored worm with neon green tail. The pliers were all I had I couldn't find my gloves. ummmmm, there are thumbs on your hands for a reason but nice fish! just dont hold them w/ pliers anymore... :-/ Quote
kickbasskid Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 Last time I used my thumb I got a painfully cut open thumb. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 23, 2008 Super User Posted August 23, 2008 try putting your thumb past the jaw, then your thumb isnt resting on those teeth and you won't get scraped up so much. Quote
kickbasskid Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 Thanks for the tip! I usually use gloves though so I get a good firm grip. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 23, 2008 Super User Posted August 23, 2008 whatever works for you! but next time you cant find your gloves try putting your thumb past the teeth. by the way, how big was that fish? did you get a weight or any measurements? Quote
kickbasskid Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 Will do. I was wandering if you could gage the weight from the picture. I had only the bare essentials with me. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 23, 2008 Super User Posted August 23, 2008 well its VERY hard to tell because there is really nothing to scale the fish against. the only thing to put the fish to scale is the pliers, and they look pretty big compared to the fish, so i'm going to say it looks to be about 2-2.5 lbs. Quote
Chad. Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 3 ish and use your thumb this aint badminton it's a cut... Quote
fishhard Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 I get shot at for a living, so a bass CAN BITE ME OR CUT ME ALL DAY LONG. Quote
Bassaholic84 Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Nice fish!!! Cant tell weight without really being able to compare it to anything but i would say in the 3 pound range Quote
kickbasskid Posted August 24, 2008 Author Posted August 24, 2008 Thats what it felt like. And drop it with the criticism. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Last time I used my thumb I got a painfully cut open thumb. My niece had this same fear till she was about 6,lol. Just kidding,...............she never had that fear ;D :-? Seriously,...grab that thing, squeeze harder. A bigger issue for me is the slime coat she is losing when you lay her on the ground. (That is her immune system) I've dropped my share of fish but always rinse them immediately and release them asap. Learn to hold them and you won't drop them or have them on the ground as often This fish cannot hurt you. Worst thing is some "chaffing" which will not draw blood and does not hurt. Where you grip the smaller ones, it chaf's up your thumb pad. But even when you start catching the bigger ones,....which you are , even when it hits in the not so tough skin of the hand,...it does not hurt. It's a trophy man,...wear it proud!! If it's just a personal thing, look into a boga grip or similar type product. They are designed for fish with teeth but work fine w/ Largemoth also. and btw.....NICE PB!!!!!!! Quote
kickbasskid Posted August 24, 2008 Author Posted August 24, 2008 I realize your concern and try to always minimize time out of the water and on the ground. This particular fish was hooked odly so I had to cut the line and pul the hook out the outside of his mouth. Most fish I keep in the water when removing the hook but the water line was down and there was two feet off sinking mud between me and the fish. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 lol, I hear you. At the golf course near my house (on the ocean), a guy went in to the water (essentially a marsh/bog in a cove) to shag hooked golf balls at low tide and sank to his waist. The fire dept had to get him out. Careful around that mud bud oh, you have a personal message Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 25, 2008 Super User Posted August 25, 2008 Congratulations on your new PB! Quote
