Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 5, 2008 Super User Posted August 5, 2008 went out with my dad and my friend travis this evening to the farm pond. when we got there, i was throwing my first swimbait that i made, hoping to stick a hawg on it. then about 10 minutes after we got there, my dad hooked a really big bass on a 5" green pumpkin/chartruese lam. trick stick! he fought it for a while, and i could tell that it was big because it never broke the surface! well when he got it in, the fish turned out to be 22 inches long, 4lbs 4oz, and my dad's new PB! whats interesting about this catch is that this fish is the same fish that was my dad's old PB, only its about half a pound heavier! my dad caught this same bass back in november of '07. here is a picture to compare: my dad ended up catching 7 bass throught the evening, and i lost count of the order and size of the bass he caught. i do know that he caught two fish there were about 2lbs each. couldnt get a pic because i was on the other side of the pond. all 7 of my dads bass were caught on the same trick stick! that one bait still has a little life left in it anyway, about 20 minutes after we got there, i had already switched from my first swimbait to my smaller, most recent bluegill swimbait. i thought that this bait didnt swim (based on bath tub tests) but i soon found out that when you reel this in at slow roll speeds, it has one KILLER swimming action! it swims in a very aggressive pattern. here is a video of the action: anyway, not long after i started fishing that, i had reeled it back to shore and then killed it when it was about 3 feet from shore, and then started twitching it back, playing with it (cuz i could see it real well). then as i went to lift it out of the water to make my next cast, a 2lber just BLEW UP on this thing!!! it was so violent of a strike my dad heard it from the other side of the pond! unfortunatley the bass didnt get any hooks. i was so pumped from this strike though. about 10 minutes after that, i was twitching it around in the shallow water where i could see it, and a fish that was about a pound and a half smacked it but also didnt get any hooks! it was very neat to see both of these fish strike. 10 minutes after that, i was continuing the pattern that i had developed (reel it back to shore then twitch it around) when i had this bad boy inhale it! same fish: not big but boy was i happy to have caught a bass on my very own swimbait. i hate to say it, but ANOTHER SWIMBAITER IS BORN! here is another bass that i caught on the swimbait: here is my biggest bass of the night. i caught it on my swimbait when i was twitching it alongside the dock. when the lure was about a foot from shore, he ate this thing. my buddy travis was havin some issues with his reel (viento) so i let him fish mine (citica). he really loved it. i think he's gonna be registering on BR soon and putting his viento for sale (nothing wrong with it, he just doesnt like the twitchin bar) and buy a citica. i also turned him on to *** when he caught 3 bass on a * and watched my dad catch 7 bass on ONE TRICK STICK. here is travis' biggest bass of the night: Quote

paul. Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 whoa paul almost didnt recognize you with the new name! why did you change? i guess i just figured i've been on here long enough i can dispense with the formalities and use my real name now. besides, no big fish for me lately has put me in the mood to forget this trophy hunting stuff and just go fishing from now on. hawg caller is officially gone as of now. if anyone else wants the name, they are welcome to it. once again dave, that is just great about your trip and your bait. i know this just makes you wanna go back to the workshop and come up with another bait. jackall will be calling soon, either to sue you or to hire you - not sure which. ;D Quote

Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 5, 2008 Author Super User Posted August 5, 2008 Hey David, a second look at your post made me realize you like a mini Avid with those glasses. don't be hatin' on the kid with the small face! ;D they might be a lil' big, but i like the fact that they block out all perephrial light. only problem with them is i got some fish attractant or bug spray (not sure which) on the lenses and now it left what looks like water spots but they dont come off.
