Why do you fish the jig you fish?

Well my jig box is filled with several different brands of jigs. Football, flipping, etc. fill the box. I'm not really looking for what type of jig but what brand you guys use and why you use them over all the other jigs that are made almost exactly the same.

The whole purpose is to settle on one manufacturer so I can clean up my jig box and save some money in the process.

I usually fish jigs on clay, rock, and wood, so I use the Finesse Roundhead jig.  I mainly buy the 5/16oz in "senko77 special" which is a custom color he makes for me.  G's jigs are top notch.  The eye's are always free of paint, he wire ties with precision and his jigs just flat out catch fish.  They have won me some nice checks and bailed me out of some tough situations.  There pricing is very fair and he can make you any color you want.  He's like the *** of jigs.

Football jigs for rocks/gravel.  Flipping jigs for everything else, trimming the weed guard depending on how I plan on using them.  

I use 1/4 oz for shallow cover, 3/8 for rivers or deeper cover, and 1/2 around pads or brush.

i fish alot of strike king bitsy bugs for couple reasons.

theyre small- so smallmouth love them. also i have caught large mouth from less than a lb up to 6.5lbs on these.

theyre cheap-if im canoeing and there is alot of current on the river, i might not be able to go free a snag and $1.60 is not a big loss.

for regular bass jigs i usually order from people who pour thier own. my next batch will prob come from G-MAN although it will be my first time buying his.

I use Eakins Jigs because they are readily available, are good quality, and catch fish. I like the look of Gman's jigs though, I will probably order some soon.

Chompers, 3/8 and 1/2oz.  Been using them since they started putting them on the shelf at the first BPS in northern IL.  They have a unbelievable amount of colors and priced right.  They comve 2 per package and cost 4.59 / For 2.  I am waiting on my next order for Bass X Jigs.  Seen them used on 2 different tv shows and the lakes they fish are the same I'll be fishing this year.    ;D   Table Rock, Beaver, and Lake of the Ozarks.  Seen them used on Crooked Creek River in Yellville Ark. and he was getting a bunch of quality fish.

Might try some of the Georgia Jigs in the future also.

Why I fish Oldham's Lures Trailer Hitch Jig

It has a screw on system that firmly attaches a craw trailer in position

The weed guard is a fine match of not to limber & not to stiff

They have the stoutest hook of any jig on the market which is a must for heavy cover

These jigs come cleanly through heavy cover grass or timber

I pour my own jigs, that way i get the features i like in a particular jig. The only jig i don't pour is football jigs. For those I use Chompers.

Until I start making my own jigs, I fish TnT jigs. A great quality jig that catches fish. I prefer living rubber to regular flat skirt material. Skinny bear jigs are also nice jigs.

I use oldham's jigs for flipping and pitching.

Strike King's football jigs and bitsy bugs do the rest for me.

I occassionaly use the little spot remover finesse jig.  I want to pick up more of them and I am going to start pouring my own poison tail jigs soon.  I have used some of the poison tail jigs and they are a good do-it-all type of jig.

GMAN Jigs!  Accept no substitutes!  J/K  He really does make some wonderful stuff.  This year I have won several league events and caught my personal best on a Gman Jig.  His prices are more than fair for a hand tied jig.  Hes always willing to get them shipped out right away and has all the colors you should need.  To sum it up, I use Gman jigs because it catches fish.  Try them you will see what all the fuss is about.  Good luck.  G

Have you fished the Wadda Bomb by TnT. Where do you buy them?

I fish 1/2 oz GMAN's jigs, 1/2 oz Micro Munch Tackle and 3/8 oz Evolution.

All three have high quality, stand-up hooks, full, lively skirts and vibrant color.

These jigs have all produced very well for me and I highly recommend them.

I have been debating on trying some jigs and it sounds like there are some very good custom jigs at very decent prices.  I am going to check some of these out instead of just picking them up from the local BPS.

Exactly roadwarrior, I've yet to have success with jigs, haven't given them enough time to. So this coming year I really intend on fishing them more and I want to settle on one brand and forget about that part and just fish them. I've spent a lot of time reading articles on it over the past few months and this coming year I'm going to make them work for me.

Well, same topic, but a little twist:

Fish a jig exclusively for awhile. Maybe not right now, but whenever

you have a good soft plastics bite going. Jigs are an exact substitue

for soft plastics: same structure and cover, depth, water clarity, etc.

The difficult part, at least for me, was the bite. It took awhile (2 years)

to get it right. I have hardly thrown soft plastics this year and that's

my strong suit! Jig fishing is addictive.

I make my own jigs now.  I have about 5 different Jig molds but find myself using 2 styles about 95% of the time (football & Poison tail).  I really am a huge fan of football head Jigs.  They work great in gravel/rocky areas and especially well in deep water.  

As for brands, I wouldnt go for huge name brand jigs, they are just too expensive and if you fish jigs the way you should you will lose plenty of them.

GMAN or someone similar would be where I would buy them from if I didnt make my own.   Just make sure whatever brand you settle on has a very sharp and strong hook.

Gman's jigs - because they are a high quality jig at a really good price.

I bought a bunch of evolution jigs from Dick's when they were on clearence and like them too, but I have a real hard time paying full retail price for them.

Terminator, and evolution jigs for me. They have quality hooks and just flat out catch fish for me.

Earlier on this thread I listed three jigs, but the common

feature among them is the stand-up hook, just like you

have on a Shak-E2 jig. This style keeps the trailer off the

bottom and keeps the presentation from being buried in

the rocks or clutter.

I think the trailer is far more important than the jig when

it comes to enticing a bite. My favorites are the GYCB Flappin'

Hog and NetBaits Baby Paca Craw.

That's a good point roadwarrior, I've read a lot about good catches with the Baby Brush Hog so that's what I've went with, for now anyways. I'm going out Saturday and plan to spend most of my time jig fishing. I got some Jewel Football Jigs, some of the Tru-Tungsten Jason Quinn Jigs, and some of the Finesse Evolution jigs.

The other day I filled up my bat tub and dropped all of them in just to see their action, along with one I made, a football jig with round rubber. The two that had the most action were the Jason Quinn's and the one I made. I just sat them in there and stirred up the water a little bit. Also the Jason Quinn just stoop up better than the others. I don't know if any of it mattered but it give me more confidence in my selection for Saturday.
