Mrs. Matstone Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Well since I have not fished in days except for a few hours yesterday I was whispering in my husbands ear at 5am " The fish are biting ". He was not so willing to go out that early so I finished up some work that I had to do around the house and we finally headed out around 2pm. We arrived at the lake and naturally I decided to hit the slop again with the shad. I ended up with this one... After catching a few more on the shad I switched over to the toad. Rondef had me wanting to try it so bad with his posts that I could not wait any longer. First few casts out and I had one on and it was a nice one too! I got him almost to shore and he came unbuttoned. UGH! > I was a little disappointed and after a few not so nice words I was now more determined. I moved up the shoreline a little and continued casting, varying my rate of retrieve a little just trying to get used to this new bait. It was not long and I had one on.. This one was proving hard to get the hook out and I was getting a little frustrated! I casted out again and then I ended up with this guy.. He made up for the good one that I lost in the beginning. ;D Then I tried the lizard and got this guy! Ain't he cute! Then I tried the creature bait thingy. I did not know how to fish this but I caught a fish on it anyway. Last but not least this is what I did with the big guy. Sent him back... I do this with all my fish.. ;D All that and I am tired.. getting old I guess. lol At the end of the day I had an awesome day and had a great time fishing with all my new stuff. I cannot wait to go out and try it all over again another day.. Just not tomorrow. I have to mow and I now have my arm wrapped up again. I hope you all had the chance to get out and fish too. ;D Also before I forget again. I got my FIRST EVER WALLEYE! I got it at the river the other day and man do those suckers have teeth! ;D I got it on the lizard thing and I did REAL WELL with this bait for smallies at the river. ;D My first ever walleye! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 30, 2008 Super User Posted July 30, 2008 You got it goin'! Great pics. 8-) Quote
Big-O Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Okay.... I am PEELED-GRILLED and CHILLED. This little gal is makin' a mockery out of the experience, skills and variety of techniques required to be a successful and well rounded angler. She's skinny! She has repeatedly strayed from the normal codes in fishing and caught certain species of fish that are not suppose to be caught with those type of baits. A walleye on a lizard? On top of that she has veered from the professional standards in techniques and caught fish after fish without knowing, "exactly what she was doing when she was doing whatever she did. "Like catch several fish on, no matter which bait she threw." And finally, she has complete disregard to the notion that only the finest rods, reels and line are required and proper adjustments made for each individual bait size and presentation in order to be successful. "Like use the same rod, line and reel on anything and everything!" This is a complete TRAVISTY. And I think SHE IS AWESOME Thankyou Mrs. Matstone, you're a "One Gal Show" ;D Big O BTW who got the baits for you....I need some too :'( Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 30, 2008 Super User Posted July 30, 2008 That was a great day of fishing I don't care who you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
OH-bass614 Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 i waznt to get my hands on that new stuff...i havent spent a dime on plastic with the exception of some ika's b.c. im waiting to stock up on the rage tail stuff Quote
Newman12Fan Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Big-O is just jealous because he bought the same exact pair of shorts last week and now he can't wear them because someone else already has them! I fish the same way, I use the same rod and same real for every type of bait. I can't justify buying extra equipment for certain baits, when I can do just as good with the same set up! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 30, 2008 Super User Posted July 30, 2008 I use the same rod and same real for every type of bait. This is my suggestion: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1196114229 8-) Quote
Mrs. Matstone Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 Thanks for the kind commments guys. I have been having a blast out there. It it cool to have people to share it with too. ;D Big-O is just jealous because he bought the same exact pair of shorts last week and now he can't wear them because someone else already has them! I fish the same way, I use the same rod and same real for every type of bait. I can't justify buying extra equipment for certain baits, when I can do just as good with the same set up! I fish from shore alot so I find it best to travel light and keep things simple. I do have another rod which I love too but I find that if I have too much stuff along it just complicates things, I end up getting frustrated and it takes all the fun out of it. Quote

JShrock07 Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Great.............. pics!!! ;D ;D ;D Sounds like you had a terrific day!!! Quote
Newman12Fan Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I also prefer to fish very light, as I only shore fish. I walk alot and don't want to lug everything around. I have a small tackle belt that holds 3 bags of plastics, a small hard plastic case with some lures, hooks, weights, my scale, and of course it has a drink holder. RW - if I followed your suggestions, I would have to buy 2 more rods and reels. For the type of fishing I do, I don't feel I need to spend the extra money on that. Quote

For the type of fishing I do, I don't feel I need to spend the extra money on that. Nope. The point I am making is that one rod can be used for all of your fishing. After that, two more rods could be added to improve technique specific needs. After that it's just "want" not "need". I enjoy collecting fishing equipment and have tried to accumulate "exactly" the right gear for specific techniques. This makes the "fishing" part more fun for me for sure and may improve "catching" a little bit, too! Still, one rod would work just fine. 8-) Quote
Newman12Fan Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 ahhh, I see, I read your post as those are the 3 setups that you have to have. I guess I did good, because your first suggestion is exactly what I have. It your right, it works good with everything I use. I know I could get better at some things if I got more equipment, but that is down the road. I actually did get a new real last week, went from the cheap real to the middle of the road real. There is a BIG difference, easier casting and easier retreival. And since I have started catching bigger and bigger fish, I got heavier line to help out with them! Quote
Big-O Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Actually I use the same basic 7'0 med hvy action x 6 on my deck at all times and all with same gear ratio Curado's. So I am old style as well, only many rods rigged with the variety of baits I feel is needed so that I can change presentations quickly without re-tieing. Now, I do have the occasional 7'6ers to throw Carolina's etc. but have used the others for that as well without complaints. Big O Quote
avid Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Just came back from wal mart and they aren't stocking the rage tails. They doubled their senko colors, but no rage tails. I think that anaconda would work for me. The "feet" on the taod lure look mighty zoomesque to me from the pix. Quote
Big-O Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I agree Coach, Any woman that carry's fishing baits around in her pockets has got to be one of a kind. And she can FISH TOO! Big O Quote
Big-O Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Mrs. Matstone, That Creature Thingy is the "Space Monkey" and It is designed for flipping or Tx rig. etc. but it can be used as a finesse top water as well. Hope you liked it... http://ragetail.com/images/RAGE_TAIL_NEXT_GEN.wmv Quote
Chad. Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Hey man who else got the baits! you making me feel bad here j/k, but i have been experimenting with the ragetail shad for well since fishing season opened. No luck yet, but i will continue to fish them. Quote
Mrs. Matstone Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 Thanks everyone. I had lots of fun out there. Went out for a bit yesterday too and caught a few more. I hope you all did too. "creature thingy" is actually a pretty good name. catchy, and very descriptive. "Space Monkey"? I don't get it unless they are trying to capitalize on the "bait monkey" thingy. :-? Quote
Big-O Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Avid, I kinda like "Creature Thingy" too. I am visualizing the bait right now.... Big O Quote
