HeadHunter13 Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Just wondering how you guys fished these plastic minnows. My wife got me a bag of smoke shad, she said they looked cool. Also what size and type of hook. Quote
kikstand454 Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 a 3/0 or 4/0 ewg hook should be fine. you want to thow them over submerged grass or around anything really. theyre pretty weedless and anywhere a dying shad would induce a bite, thats where you throw it. i even carolina rig them. theyre just like a jerk bait. change up the retrieve till you get bit. i love them... esp. this time of year and spring. Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Boy are you in for a treat! A great WEEDLESS bait. Sexy as sin as it falls and twitches,...use it for 5 minutes, watch it, and you'll see what it was made to do. There is no wrong way to work this one. Quote
-nick- Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 I had some 3/0EWG weighted 1/16 hooks from my yum 3" money minows so i used it on the super fluke and the first time I casted it out and just let it fall i caught a fish. Never really caught anything or gave them any time after that but the weighted hook seemed to work pretty well. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted November 2, 2008 Super User Posted November 2, 2008 Walking the dog on top is also a very effective method in shallow water or when you see fish busting. Walk it along then just kill it and let it sink in a likely spot. They never hit these softly,it's usually a crushing blow. Quote
BassinSoldier Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Your wife apparently has a good eye for productive lures! You should thank her...The guys have pretty well covered how to fish them, just follow what they said and enjoy. I love me some super flukes! To add to what was said I also like them as spinnerbait trailers and I have taken the skirt off of some of my buzzbaits and used a superfluke instead. They work great for these two applications too. Trick Worm Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Ive seen people make a double rig and hook two 4 pounders at one time. The dual rig is great for schooling bass. I usually rig them weightless with a 4/0 hook and twitch them letting them fall for about 5 seconds in between the twitches to imitate a dying bait fish. Quote
fathom Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 if you wanna fish 'em deeper, tie it to a 6/0 ewg gammie superline. the heavier hook makes 'em fall just a tad slower than a 5" senko...tough bait to beat in cooler waters. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted November 2, 2008 Super User Posted November 2, 2008 You should see the double rig with a magnum fluke on the rear and a regular size one on the front. One word, sick. Quote
fivesixone Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 Double flukin' is friggin' awesome... I haven't done it in a while though, takes so long to rig up! Thanks for the reminder though, I need to hook up one of my rods with it again! Quote

I actually got my first spinnerbait bass doing this, i put a smaller regular fluke as a trailor just for fun and it ended up catching me the first bass i ever caught on a spinner bait! Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted November 3, 2008 Super User Posted November 3, 2008 One of my new favorite baits. Stripers and bass kill this lure. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 3, 2008 Super User Posted November 3, 2008 Can yall draw a picture of how you rig them double? Please. Quote
Super User CWB Posted November 4, 2008 Super User Posted November 4, 2008 One of the fish catchinest baits out there. Twitch on top or let sink and start working it. It won't let you down. A lot of copies out here. Don't forget Slug-Go's and my favorite, the Z-Too. BPS makes a decent copy and at 20 for 3.29, not a bad deal! Quote
kikstand454 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 i like the sk zulu too the best truthfully. but they are so hard to find now. even when u order them now theyre not the same as the old ones. im not sure why the 3x baits didnt catch on but it seems as though major stores are phasing them out. the ztoo is awsome where i fish because of so many bream that run off with the fluke, a regular ne is ripped to shreds. and NOTHING is better in saltwater. pesky baitsnatchers and toothy trout make short work of regular plastic. not the 3x. i really like the lizards and really really like the zero. all these baits will float a 4/0 hook. its my secret carolina rig bait.
