Wildbillb Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Took the boy out fishing this morning while his mom was getting things around for his birthday party. Took the canoe out on the lake. Got our spot picked out, tied on a new lure that I gave him this morning for his birthday (5th). I made a couple casts with his rod to make sure all was well. I handed it over to him and on the first cast there goes the rod straight into the water. I had the paddle in my hand, but no luck reaching it. Down it went in 15 foot of water. He was more upset over loosing his new jig than loosing his rod and reel. We called mom and she brought out my sunglasses that I left and home and took him back with her to I could search for the rod. Well after about 12 drifts over the area I thought I saw a flash of his silver reel. I dropped the anchor as to stop my drift. I then started looking for the reel again. No luck whatsoever. I then tied my life jacket to the anchor for a reference point. I made another half dozen drifts with no luck seeing it. I Decided I need to get going to make the party. I paddled over and pulled up the anchor. And to my extreme amazement the rod not the line was hooked to the anchor when I pulled it up. With a good cleaning and a little lubrication his reel should be good to go. Quote
JShrock07 Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 That was a lucky break you got!!! How happy was your son to have his new lure back?? Quote
tritz18 Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Boy that sure was lucky, my friend recently lost his rod and reel and is now trying to get it back. Similar story once my dad dropped a rod in the water when we were trolling and what do u know 5 min later I get a hit and reel it up and on the end of my lure is my dads rod. Bet ur son was happy Quote
Eddie Munster Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Good job bill. When fishing from a jon boat in Ontario my brother bumped three of his rods (baitcaster included) into the water. We spent the next 20 mins jigging over that spot with daredevil spoons trying to hook at least one of them back. Finally snagged one and luckily he is disorganized; all the lures were tangled in the other two rods' lines. Quote
