Cracker Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Well, the past week or two I have had NO luck. usually I can atleast catch two or three on most every outing, but lately it seem no matter what I throw I get skunked. even the trusty trick worm. what gives? we have been getting an enormous amount of rain and the canals I have been fishing are flowing pretty good, but I cant see this making such a huge difference. Help me out please. I'm stumped > How long have you guys ever gone with nothing?? Quote

skillet Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Gone thru dry periods but not "week or two". Really don't enough about fishing your waters to help. Hope things turn around for you... As Ever, skillet Quote
Cracker Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 hey thanks RW, I guess we all need to slow down a bit and get back to basics. Are the immitation senkos just as good, better or worse than GYCB senkos, do they have the same motion to them, and do they last any longer. I got so irritated with GYCB Senkos because it seemed that on every 4th or 5th cast the thing would fly off the hook from being torn up. Also this is just a side note but a good majority of the tips or articles I read about fishing cover or in certain water temps don't apply to my area. the canals and lakes that I fish dont really have major depth changes or structure like trees and stumps, and the water temps are always warm to hot. They do have lilies and hydrilla which usually produce well but alot of the tips relating to fishing structure or bass behavior in certain water temps don't really relate to here. Quote

We're not going there. In the top section of the "Tackle" section is a link to the "Senko Library", everything you want to know and literally hundreds or posts, discussions and arguments. 8-) Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted July 19, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted July 19, 2008 I would go in a different direction...either a BIG 10" ribbon tail worm or topwater ( zara spook) in the evenings. We have been getting a lot of rain as well and the big fish have been eating well the last few weeks Quote
JShrock07 Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 This time of year EVERYWHERE you go is hot, water, air temp is hot and fishing gets hard. I have just started fishing deep this year, since I have learned about it on here!!! But try fishing between 15'- 25' that area is where the thermocline is (at least in VA) But try this and you will have better luck. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted July 19, 2008 Super User Posted July 19, 2008 Prefished two days years ago on Lale of the Pines up in North East Texas prefishing for a tournament. Not one pickup and was on the water daylight until dark. First morning of the tournament just more of the same. Tried everything and everywhere, nothing...Finally caught two keeper fish the second day of the tournament that may have weighed three pounds together. So I went three full days without a bite of any kind. The weather was below freezing all four days and the highest the temperture ever got was 28*. Lows at night down into the mid to lower teens. Cannot blame the weather though. There were several good stringers weighed in. Fished a tournament back in the late 70s on Logan Martin Lake east of Birmingham, Alabama. There were over 50 boats and it rained, sleeted, and snowed most of the day. ONE fish was weighed in by everyone and they had to use tractors to bring the boat trailers down the ramp to load due to the covering of sleet on the ramp. I did not catch that fish either. I have had my share of miserable days on the water, most my on doing. It's the great days that keep you going back. Quote
CookieMonst3r Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 With all of the heat in FL, I'd recommend fishing deeper and thicker. Try a deep diving crankbait on weed edges. Quote
Cracker Posted July 19, 2008 Author Posted July 19, 2008 I really cant fish deeper, the canals and lake that I fish are at MOST 10'-15' deep. But I'm persistent enough to not stop fishing, it just gets irritating. RW I'll check out that senko list Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 20, 2008 Super User Posted July 20, 2008 Any vegetation around? Any deep water that is cooler and will hold more oxygen? This is what the bass are seeking this time of year. Read the posts and do as Road Warrior says and sooner or later you will hit some nice ones. Just think grass and weeds and pads and cooler water.
