i dont have one, and i dont know much about them, but i think it would only be worth if it your water was extremely clear. otherwise you're not gonna see much. and i also dont know if they have zoom features, so you might have to get close to see stuff. again, i dont have one, so i dont know.

you would probably be better off with a sonar unit instead of an underwater camera.

my friend has one

I think its worth your time if you can afford one.  there are a few brands between $100 and $200 now.

clear water is important.

it will save time if you are deep water fishing over a school of fish to make sure you aren't wasting time over the wrong species.

also it can show you what the bass see underwater in cover and how the relate or hide in cover.  seeing the bottom as a picture makes it much easier to understand your sonar.

sometimes I find a big piece of cover in 20' of water and wonder what it is and if the fish are around the edges or inside or if they have fish at all

and docks, are they worth your time today?  see the answer

I think they are great, however, I see them as a "solution" to a problem that has no real solution because it 's application would be limited to when and if the water clarity is such that it allows you to see what 's underwater.

If the place you fish is crystal clear all the time why not, otherwise, spend your money in something else ( like a 3D side image depth finder ) with more applications.
