Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 7, 2008 Super User Posted July 7, 2008 I bought a Loomis 7 1/2, medium spinning rod for light jigs, tubes and small cranks. The rod felt way too light when I took it out of the shipping tube and I considered sending it back. Well, I figured I would try it out anyway. I spooled my Stradic with #10 mono and tied on a 1/4oz tube. After 15 minutes and no hits, I figured the tube was the wrong bait to be using and got ready to go home. I was walking the bank, heading back to the truck, when I saw a huge carp tailing in the shallows. I made 2 casts at the carp and on the 2nd cast, BAM. This would of been my 1st carp but I didn't think they would hit a jig. I'm just goofing around with this fish, testing out the backbone on my new rod, and then it jumped. Wholly crud, that ain't no Carp. I swear this bass must have been piggy backin on that carp because I reeled my tube right on top of the carp when the bass hit. Anyway, here she is. I didn't weigh her but I guess 4 pounds. The set I was using. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 7, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 7, 2008 cool combo and very nice fish. way to go buddy. Thanks buddy. I figured you'd pop up if I posted a fish. How's summer treating you? We need some pic's of your HAWGS so get out there and wet a line. Quote
foul hooked Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 What brand of line you using? 10# on a spinning rig must be pretty limp. Quote
-HAWK- Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Nice fish, and awesome new spiining outfit. One question though being that you plan on using the setup for jigs, tubes and crankbaits why didnt you go with a flurocarbon line? Personal preference? I am mainly asking because im still trying to figure the differences out between mono, fluro and braid. From what i have heard the FLuro is the way to go on jigs, tubes and cranks. Quote
btcprince Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 nice fish. its easy to justify buying gear when you catch fish your first time with it too! Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted July 8, 2008 Super User Posted July 8, 2008 New gear and a fat fish, all is right with the world. Quote

I only had #10 Stren laying around from when my Uncle left it here. I'm not a Stren fan but I just wanted to try the rod out. The Stren is deffinately coming off. My primary crank rod is a Diawa Sol on a Loomis CBR843. The spinning rod is just for funning around. Jayhawk, I put 100% Flourocarbon on at least 5 of my rods but found it to get very brittle. I'm not a big fan of braid either unless I'm fishing in thick, matted grass. I've been experimenting with Yozuri Hybrid #12 and #15 for the past couple months and so far seem to like it. But It's only on my baitcasters. I will try the Ultrasoft on my spinner but I have to order it. Can't find it down here. I have also used Suffix and from what I remember it wasn't that bad. Quote
