Just got back from a week at Falcon.  Testing new bait designs and had a terrific trip. Couldn't fish at night because this time of year nights are extremely windy in that area and more calm in the day.  Had to tough it out in the heat, but it was worth it.  Caught lots of fish and 8 big uns.  Only got pictures of 6, left the camera in truck one day.  Caught one 10-3/4 fish 2 different times in less than 10 minutes.  30 minutes after that, caught a 10-1/4, same spot.  "Honey hole"  Averaged 50 fish per day and all on jig and new big Craw and new big worm.  Wish many of you could've been there, but the heat and wind were relentless.

My new Triton 21X2 made it an enjoyable trip, handles the water and fishes great.  250 Merc Optimax got best fuel mileage I've ever seen.  I'm impressed.

Wow.........I'm speechless.  Thats a good lifetime for most folks and you did it in a couple of days.  Way to go.

Fish have been off of the beds for over a mth, but their tails were still in the healing process and alot of rocks so beat up pretty bad. Actually fished 4 full days and tried nights 2 different times and got blew into oblivion both times. One evening I made the mistake of running to the Dam, about 40 miles from launch site and stayed til 11:00 pm and that was a HUGE mistake. Took 2 hrs to get back to the ramp and my little dog "Tito" was a nervous wreck.

40 miles by boat one way??  I can't even imagine.  I'm used to about 2 or 3 miles and that's a long way for me.  I can imagine how the dog felt, I had a bad experience yesterday on the water, was pretty scary.  Got caught in a lightning storm.

Great fish pictures.  Maybe someday I'll get there to catch fish like that, even to be able to.

WOW  :o  Those  are some hosses. How much did they weigh?

Biggest was 11lb 11oz. Only took pics of the bigguns but an 8 1/2 pounder gave me the biggest thrill. Was fishing in about 14 ft of water and the fish had to have been going full speed when he smashed the jig cause it almost ripped the rod out of my hands on the hit. No sooner did I get the hookset and the fish wrapped up in some small brush that was about 6 ft deep and I could see the flash of her side down there trying to get free. Thinking it might be a giant, I emptied my pockets and went in after her and after a successful grab brought her up to find she wasn't the giant I had thought.  But the added excitement kept me goin for several hours not to mention the nice coolin off that I got.  :D

Sorry, no giant here, just this little 8.5 pounder.  ;D

Considering that I've only caught 1 fish over 7 pounds IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, I find this to be the funniest line yet. Sometimes I feel like I'm fishing on a different planet.

That's it, finally figured out why Burley only pulls dinks he is fishing in a different dimension from the rest of us, even when we're on the same boat. ;D

Daniel, I am fortunate to live in one of the best areas of the country for chasing big fish. Many of our fisheries are heavily stocked and maintained so it gives us a better than average chance to be more successful. I don't have the luxury that you do in the variety of species so it is a trade off to some extent. Also all of our lakes here in Texas with the exception of one (Caddo Lake) are man made resevoirs and extremely similar in structure types.  This allows us to reproduce patterns from on body of water to the next with good results. Would I change it, NO! I am too old to change.

I live in Tx too but having a hard time finding big fish like you are talking about. What baits do I fish with cause I am kind of new to fishing for the bigguns.

to the Forum Bubba77, Theres a bunch of fine folks here. If you ck the lake record charts, latest reviews and fishing results on your area lakes, you will get some good info on where to start your quest for improving your average size catch. Main advice is to move away from the shorelines and start concentrating on structure that is a bit further out, like 75 to 100 yards to start with. After you get comfortable with that zone which might take a year or so, then move out to mid lake structures on a regular basis. You will find that there are as many or more fish to be caught far from the banks and much larger fish on an average. Hopefully you have a boat or tube fishing set up that will make the first step achievable. If so, gitt'r done and be safe doin it.
