Spike-it Dip-&-Glo

I've been hearing alot the past few months about Spike-it, and how on occasion, the bass won't hit a regular jig and trailer but when you dip the trailer tips in Spike-it, they eat it up.  

I'm wondering who has tried this product and what did you think?

What color plastics do you use it on? And what color Spike-it do you think works best and when?

I use the chartreuse and the blue spike-it. It works good and almost dries instantly. I mostly use it on white baits but u can use it on about any color you want.

I only use it occasionally and when I do it is very sparingly. Just a hint of chartreuse on the tail of a Pearl White Super Fluke seems to turn the smallmouth  in the river on. Why? I don't know, but time after time it seems to make a difference. Another occasion I use it is when I am in a area with a lot of bluegill, I like to swim a green pumpkin jig with a worm trailer that has the very end of the tail dipped in chartreuse Spike It.

In the fall, I was fishing a watermellon seed baby brush hog and noticed some bluegill in the clear water.  The bluegill fins looked chartruse so I dipped the baby brush hogs tail in the spike it.  Now the lure had an added feature that was closer to the bluegill that I know the bass were eating.  I caught fish with the modified lure.  I think it made a difference so I have confidence to use it.  I used it a lot last fall.

Find some crawdads at your local lake and look at the colors of the pincers.  You will quickly realize shy many people dip their trailers in a different color dye.

I use the stuff on jig trailers, trick worms, other soft plastics, crankbaits, spinnerbait blades, I like the stuff and use it a lot.

I usually use the Chartreuse with garlic.  PHEW!!!  Man, no need for a cover scent with that stuff on.  BTW, that stuff is deadly if it gets on carpet.

I ended up getting some last Saturday and just wanted to know some different applications for the product.

I bought the chartruese garlic dye.  I tried it on a bunch of old torn up plastics to see which ones the dye would show on.  The coolest looking one was a YUM craw trailer that has blue flakes in it.  After I dyed the tips, the flake looked green. Yellow+Blue=Green.  I also noticed that the longer you leave the plastic in the dye, the darker the dye appears on the plastic.  That helps if your dyeing dark colors like watermelon seed.  

Anyone other than LAB, use any other color than chartruese?  

Also, has anyone tried the Spike-it markers?  

They had one pack of those, and I had to smack the bait monkey to get him off my back over those markers.   ;D

I have the Spike It Markers and use them a lot.  My son and I have been using them over the past year and have done well with them.   I do have to warn you that they do stain.  I usually use an old piece of cardboard to color the tips of a worm.

Its good stuff.  Soft plastics, especially watermellon color and lighter colors.  Black is about the only color that does not work well for me.  Chartruess works best in murky waters.  I think it gets you a little more attention.

Spike It kicks *** in some situations. In one instance I was fishing a spring time tournament. We had found a few fish during our pre-fishing days, but nothing to put us in the money. One lure I always keep in my tacklebag is a little crappie tube skirt jig in the color of blue with a white skirt. No matter what the conditions I have always been able to catch bass on this bait. Now keep in mind the crappie jig doesnt produce big bass but it does produce quantity. It was the last half of the one day tourney and we only had one small keeper in the boat. I was digging through my tacklebag and remembered the crappie jigs. Then I remembered that I had some big 4" Gene Larew Tubes in a solid pearl white color. Luckily my partner had a jar of blue Spike It. So I dipped the front half of the tube in blue and we were culling fish within an hour. We hit the way in with a hefty sack and went home with $3500. So to make a long story short, yah, Spike It can be a life saver.

Another side note if you are wanting a more versatile and easy to use Spike It set up, they make a set of Spike It markers.  There are 5 or 6 different colors.  They are not as messy and more precise.
