thetr20one Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Went fishing with my brother inlaw yesterday in a downpour but that sure didn't stop the bite. I manage to catch 8 or so between 2 1/2 and 31/2. Then I caught this Toad, his scale said it weighed 2.17 so that was wrong. he did manage a few fish but I outfished him 5-1 +size. I figure this fish would have possibly been a 7 . Oh well I got a pic. OH yeah I am sorry i don't have more pics from that trip it was POURING!!! A little guy from my brother!! Quote
thetr20one Posted June 17, 2008 Author Posted June 17, 2008 Nice toad, what did you catch it on? A tube! On the Portage lakes in Ohio. Quote
NEBassMan Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 it's hard to tell for sure, but i'd guess 4.5 - 5.5. Great Fish! Quote
Mattlures Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Oh man please dont get offendid by this but I dont think the scale was wrong. A 7lber could litteraly eat that fish and I am not exagerating. That fish looks to be about 15in and around 2 1/2 --3lbs. It is still a fine fish. If you still feel your scale robbed you then you absolutly need to get a new one and check it first against a certified one. Then you will have no doubts Quote

I am 6'2" and my knuckles are about 4 1/2 inches across and the fish is not stretched towards the camera. The second photo with my brother is a 16" fish. I don't BS people or have any need to exaggerate weights. My brother did check his scale and it read different with the same 5 lb weight anywhere from 1.8- 3.9 so the scale was not right. Maybe not a 7 but well over 5. HMMMM? Maybe me and my brother who have collectively fished in over 250 tourneys and have seen thousands of fish weighed would misjudge a fish by three pounds. Next time I will make sure to take my boat, my scale, and my tape so I am sure I don't claim a 3 pounder to be more than a 3 pounder. Quote
rondef Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Nice hawg, I think it looks to be around 4.5 to 5 pounds. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted June 18, 2008 Super User Posted June 18, 2008 I would be SHOCKED if that fish went a spot over 5.5. Good fish for the midwest though. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 18, 2008 Super User Posted June 18, 2008 i say its about 3.5-4lbs. i dont accuse you of lying, or trying to exaggerate, im just saying my opinion, everythings cool. if you say your knuckles are 4.5" across, judging by that, the fish is about 19, maybe 20 inches long, and according to the weight calculator on Bass Resource (which almost everyone agrees weights fish too high), that fish would weigh 3.9lbs (19 inches) or 4.5lbs (20 inches). there is really no way to tell from a photograph, especially when accurate lenght and girth measurements are not given. but i can tell that is no 5lber. if you do have the length and girth but didnt post them, try using this formula to find out the weight: (girth2 × length) ÷ 800 most people will tell you this is a pretty accurate formula. might i add, NICE FISH!!! its still bigger than most of what i catch, good job! Super User Sam Posted June 18, 2008 Super User Posted June 18, 2008 I'll take five of those in any tournament or any day. Super catch. Now go after his mother. Quote
Mattlures Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 thetr20one not trying to call you out at all, and I amdefinatly not calling BS. Now had you have claimed to have weighed it and said it was 7lb I would have had to try real hard and bite my tounge, or finger. I am just agreeing with the scale. If you feel it was at least 5 lbs in your mind and you believe it then thats all that matters. If you have doubts about your scale get a new one and check before hand so there wont be any guessing. I still say its a fine fish. Quote
thetr20one Posted June 18, 2008 Author Posted June 18, 2008 I know from the pic it doesn't look real fat but she was obviously fattening back up after her spawn and was full of shad, as were the smaller fish that day. Full of eggs she was problably a real porker. It wasn't that she was huge just thick n healthy. I have just been around long enough to know a 5 pounder give or take a half pound when I see one. She was solid, my brother in law and me both said 5 - 51/2. and Mr. dsaavedra visit Presque Isle or another large harbor on Lake Erie and see how off the fish calculator can be with largemouth. There is a lake here where a 18" largemouth weighs up to 5 pounds (Dale Walborn reservior). Trust me guys I don't get upset with critisism. We all have our own thoughts. I just wish my tourneys were going nearly as well as my fun fishing. I've lost my mojo. These past couple fun trips might just get me jump started though. Quote

warmer Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 looks like the responses on this thread might keep that mojo down from the sound of it. Quote
Eddie Munster Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Being originally from Pennsylvania, I know (regardless of the weight) that is one fine bass for the North. Great catch buddy. Quote

Cory20 Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 That is a healthy fish man, I'm with the with the a 1/2 lb of 5 group. The fish in my avatar weighed 5lb 7oz and there is no way it's 21 and 1/2. They just get fat up north. Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 The first fish is not 7 I bet. Thing is fish always look bigger than they actually are when you land them. Excitement maybe you know. That fish is probably 4 LB range though... Here is a pic of a 4 LBer I caught....Looks about same as yours... This one was weighed at 4 LBS 4 OZ Quote
