i finally dragged my dad out to this pond i have been wanting to fish for over a week. i have been here several times before but only caught two dinks here.

that changed today.

it started off VERY slow. my dad got two hits right off the bat on an *** beaver but couldnt hook up. i was alternating fishing a 12" culprit and a cavitron. about 45 min to an hour later, i got one on my buzzbait but it quickly got off. then it was about 45 min to an hour of nothing. then my dad hooked up with a nice one and landed this fish on an *** 5" ***:

it was hooked deep and was bleeding. i got the hook out cleanly (thru the gill method) but i wanted to get it back in the water fast so we didnt take measurements. i'd guess it was pushing 2lbs.

then it got slow again. no bites for about 30 min. i decided to switch over to the ***. i was dragging it through some gnarly stuff; a combination of hydrilla, snot grass, and lily pads:

i casted over to deep water, crawled it onto the slop, and was just twitchin it along. i let it fall into a hole and sit, then i felt a pretty slight tick tick tick.

i slammed the hook home and stuck a nice pig. it was steady takin out drag. it got pretty freakin tangled up in all the slop, but it was no match for my 50lb braid. then it got caught up in some of the lily pads, and i started getting real scared of losing it. i just eased up on the pressure and he swam out of the pads. i dragged this 21 inch, 4lb 6oz beast on shore:

not too long after that i caught a super dink using the same method:

only reason i took a pic was to enter it in the *** contest.

i proceeded to catch 2 more slightly bigger dinks before the night was done.

all in all it was a good time. very slow at first but it got awesome at the end.

sorry for dragging this post out ;D

thanks guys.

it is a great pond.

i love that pond but i hate it lol. i love it because it is full of QUALITY fish. bigger fish than anywhere else that i fish. but i hate it because the fish are so difficult to catch. i have been skunked there MANY times. its also got kinda limited access.

here are two pictures of the pond that, if put side by side, show a view of the entire pond (panorama style):

Patience, patience, patience. Way to go Dave. I start getting really restless if I don't have any bites in a 15 minute span. Way to stick with it!

Very nice fish. A 4lber is always cool. Still waiting for mine this year.  8-)

Nice catch,

Im curious how deep that pond is?

thanks for all the replies guys!

this is a VERY shallow pond. it is only a few inches deep around the edges, then it drops off to a few feet deep about 10 feet from shore. the deepest part is in the very middle and i would say it isnt much deeper than 8 or 10 feet.
