Sunday at Yatesville Lake, Kentucky.

Hey everyone.  I just wanted to do a little braggin' about our day.  It wasn't anything spectacular but it sure wasn't a bad way to end the weekend.

The top water bite was really good Sunday morning (Josh caught his first keeper on a Super spook Jr. but we didn't take a picture of it) although it didn't last near long enough...it never really does.  From then on, we had to fish slower for our bites with the exception of one of the fish below. We were off the water pretty early for us but we ended up catching a few short fish and boating five keepers between us - I caught two and Josh (Stratos282) caught three.

Here are the pictures separated between the two of us.  These were all taken on his cellphone.  Makes a nice little camera until I can afford a better one.

We had just pulled up on a flat we had never before fished.  Josh was throwing a crankbait when this one hit.  This one was the biggest of the day.  It weighed in at 4.7 pounds and was better than 20 inches long.  This bass is the biggest largemouth he has caught to date.  This was also the second keeper of the day.

This is the same fish but its vertical beside his arm to give an idea of size.

 

Josh caught the bass pictured above on a texas rigged Zoom U-tale worm.  It was about 16 inches long and weighed two pounds.  He caught this one in the mouth of a cove.  As you can see, this was keeper number five and I believe it was the last fish we caught.

A carp on a crankbait?  Yep.  Not snagged either.  There was a small school of em gorging themselves on locusts that had landed in the water.  Josh threw his crankbait to where they were and instead of running, one came up and engulfed it.  He set the hook and held on.  We got a good laugh out of it.

Here is a couple that I caught.

The two pictures above are of the same fish.  It weighed about 2.5 pounds.  I caught it out of a tree that fallen into the lake.  It was also caught on a Zoom U-Tail worm.

The two pictures above are of another fish I caught as well.  I bet by now you can guess what it was caught on too.  Keeper number four was caught out of a different lay down as well.  It was pretty much a carbon copy of the one above it but I am relatively new to the catching keeper business and I must say, IT'S AWESOME!!!

This was the first time we actually got a limit since we have been fishing together.  We have caught four keepers for the last five or so trips so it was nice to actually get that limit.  We are in the process of learning this lake.  Maybe one of these days we can make a little bit of gas money in a tournament here.

Thanks a lot guys.  Catching or not, we always try to have a really good time.  Catching really don't hurt though.

Sounds like  a great day, maybe we should have tried Yatesville instead of Fishtrap.  We will blame your not getting one in the boat on our trip on Burley having cursed the back of the boat.  ;D

My wifes grandfather has a cabin on the lake, what an nice place to fish, though I've only been there twice. Looks like you guys hammered 'em.

It really is a nice bass lake.  I am starting to get the hang of fishing it.  At least in the spring anyway.

I dig that carp on a crank. I spent an entire summer as a kid fishing for carp at the local high school pond. I never once thought to try a crankbait!

Carp on a crankbait!!!!  That's crazy.  My brother is a carp fisherman and he's gonna flip when he sees that picture.  That's just nuts, he'll never believe it.

I wish I could catch keepers out of that lake like that.  I did manage to yank one in this year though, so I'm on the board at least.  Gonna try the U-tail worm more now.  I usually do good with the red shad color, but I also have the june bug and pumpkin/chartreuse colors as well.  Had them for a pretty long time now though, but still all fresh in the packages, not dried up.  The red shad is about the only one I usually use.  Otherwise I usually fish a Berkley powerworm, black 7" long ribbontail worm.

Nice Fish!!! I caught a carp on a lipless crankbait (perch color) last week and I was totally shocked, it weighed 14.3lbs and man what a fight it was!

We really wasn't doing anything special.  A lot of fishing the banks and I was fishing the very tips of laydowns to catch all of mine.  The natural colors really seem to be the key right now.  I would suggest to try different shades of green and brown worms, lizards and brush hogs too.  They really seem to like em.  I have had some really good success here on the Strike King Zero's in the watermelon red color fished weightless, both texas and wacky rigged.

The carp on the crank was pretty neat.  He just casted it to him, let it sit there and the carp hammered it.
