Teria Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Thanks to everyone who gave me great advice on setting the hook. CJ and I went fishing Saturday and I set the hook 10 times. I am bruised from head to toe, but I caught ten fish. I just wanted to let y'all know the advice must have worked. Thanks, Teria Quote
Wildbillb Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Sweet....but how did you get bruised from setting the hook? Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Sweet....but how did you get bruised from setting the hook? Rod butt slaps on the forearm till the wrist learns to take that energy. Also, digging the rod butt into your side or belly. You'll Get there Teria, way to keep at it. BTW- I know I didn't catch 10 fish yesterday so you're doing something right ?? Quote
CJ Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Yup, rod butt got her. That and the 3 tap method! ;D J/K...definantly JUST KIDDING! Really though, not bad for a newbie catching em' 12-15 ft. deep on a 12 in. worm. Great Job Momma! Quote
Bass XL Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Also, digging the rod butt into your side or belly. lol...Oh yeah. Quote
skillet Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 "12-15 deep on a 12 in. worm" Teria, you didn't do OK, you did GREAT ... As Ever, skillet Quote
Teria Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 Sweet....but how did you get bruised from setting the hook? I'm not sure how I got all the bruises. I was on the lake over 12 hours with CJ driving the boat. ;D I'm not that good at balance yet and I almost fell off several times. That can probably account for some of them. If I could just get that good posture thing down! I'll be working on that. Anyway, it was a great day for me. I would do it all again tomorrow despite the bruises. Quote
paul. Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 10 for 10! 100%. can't do no better than that. rock on girl. 12' to 15' - sounds like you're getting her started right on the offshore structure game. good job cj. also really cool that y'all were using big baits. y'all know i love those. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 2, 2008 Super User Posted June 2, 2008 Woo-hoo! You go girl! 8-) Quote

Zel Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 GREAT JOB TERIA!!! Soon you'll be giving us tips. Went out with my son-in-law Sunday. We started out fishing used water behind a boat with 4 guys, but the area has always been good for me. He again started out with that I don't want to look foolish thing. I immediately pretended to set the hook and yelled DANG, MISSED ONE, and then said so does anybody think I looked foolish... NO. I had him set up with a carolina rigged lizard because it was pretty windy. It was his first time ever using this rig. I said please do me a favor, anytime you feel a tick, see the line move, or something just plain feels different... JUST SET THE HOOK! Well, he relented and reluctantly ageed. Within the first 30 minutes he pulled out 3 behind the overloaded boat of anglers (they had caught none to that point). He would have caught more if he would have listened to me and swept the rod instead of using overhead hooksets, but that's another story. He ended up catching more than me for the day, and not once did I have to perform the deep hook removal method. Quote
k4phd Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Congratulations on a great day. You will get your "sea legs" and be able to keep your balance after a couple of trips. Jim Quote
