Posted April 19, 2008 Super User Posted April 19, 2008 well my dad and i went out for some spawn fishing today. i got there and a few casts later i hooked up with a dink.... a few casts after that i hooked up with a real hawg on its bed, but i was fooling with a tangle in my line so i couldnt get a good hookset and the fish was off after a very brief fight. my dad caught two dinks right after that, and then it was about 30-45 minuts without a bite. i moved locations and caught 3 dinks on consecutive casts. my dad came over to where i was and we didnt catch any more. then we moved over to the eastern end of the pond and fishing started getting awesome! my dad got a dink or two, but i didnt get anything. then we walked a little further up the bank and i spotted a big ole female and male on a bed. my dad casted his *** baby *** on the bed and the male just nailed it... that was his biggest fish of the day. a little further up the bank from that bed there was another with about 3 or 4 really good sized fish. we pestered those for for well over 20 minutes. then i decided to fish my lipless crankbait that i just refinished (bluegill pattern) and i plopped it right on the bed. i saw the biggest female suck it up and spit it out of the bed. i tried again a few times. a few casts later she sucked it up again and i set the hook!!!! this was a very powerful fish i tell you what. length, 22". girth, 15". according to my scale it was 4lbs 9oz. but it was a whole lot heavier than that. i used the formula g2*l/800 and the fish turned out to be 6.1875lbs, or 6lbs 3oz. this felt like a 6lb fish, so im trusting the forumla on this one. it was great that i caught that on my own paintjob. after that it was pretty much non sotp action with dinks. my dad ended up with 11 bass (all dinks except the big male he got) and i ended up with 6 bass (all dinks except the big female) and a catfish.....catfish are yucky ;D.
