Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 So the 4.5 is the new PB, correct? Have fun at Fork, say "HI" to Bighead for us! Quote
jrhennecke Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Great job on the 4.5 Good luck in Texas. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 12, 2008 Super User Posted March 12, 2008 Good luck in Texas, but regardless of what happens down there, you WILL catch some nice fish at Guntersville! The timing is perfect and hopefully the weather will cooperate. This lake should be on fire! 8-) Quote
bassman31783 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Just got back from Fork. Not that you need a tip but hear is one anyway. The big mamas are still staging in about 10-12 ft of water around large structure and weed beds. We were finding the smaller males with red rat l traps in 4-8 ft and then pulling out to 10-12 ft and catching females with jigs. Not any huge ones but i did get a 5lb15oz and a 4lb15oz in the same day. Hope this helps you a bit and best of luck. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted March 18, 2008 Author Super User Posted March 18, 2008 Well, two trips down, one to go. The first trip was at Caney Creek, LA. New PB at 4.5 lbs. Last week-end I fished my very first tournament, which was held on Lake Fork. It was a one day only "Biggest Bass" tournament. The first prize winner picked up $2050 with a lunker that weighed all of 2.54 lbs. My boat turned in the seventh place entry, which weighed a whopping 0.58 lbs. Needless to say the bass had lock-jaw. A driving rain/hail storm the night before, coupled with 30 mph Northerly winds, pretty much guaranteed that the trip would be a bust. It was. Throw in the problems with me losing my wallet and breaking the tip off a new BC rod and you will get a pretty good idea about how my trip went. To add insult to injury, I did not have the opportunity of meeting Bighead or Matt Fly. Jeeze, that trip really sucked. OK, it's now all water under the bridge. Next week-end I'm off to Guntersville for a solid week of fishing with a great bunch of guys. I will probably not catch my coveted ten-pounder, but I will have a great week nonetheless. The BassResource trip is the one I've been looking forward to for a year. Quote
fishizzle Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Good luck on the 10 and as Ike says "take luck out of the equasion" Have fun eveyone Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted March 19, 2008 Super User Posted March 19, 2008 Mike, Sorry to not have met you. We were wearing white UT shirts and witnessed the weigh-in, and Don the emcee falling off the stage. Mike, you didn't tell every one the rest of the story, about the good Texas hospitality. Mike didn't catch the big one, but did have some great fortune. Mike's lost wallet was lost on a Texas Highway!!!! Money and credit cards and all on his first day down. Lake Fork Marina took care of Mike, great folks, and Mikes wallet was mailed home, Money and all. Some guy saw it an intersection and returned it. There are still some honest people out there! Super User Long Mike Posted March 20, 2008 Author Super User Posted March 20, 2008 Matt, how you know this information is beyond me. I'm dumbfounded. I didn't know that someone found my wallet until I returned home Sunday evening. To the best of my knowledge, there were only three people on the face of the planet who knew that my wallet had been found. i.e. the guy who found it, my fishing partner and me. Not only that, you know WHERE he found it. Very strange. As for Texas hospitality, you are right on. Dana, at Lake Fork Marina, took pity on me and advanced me $300 against my lost American Express card. I can't thank her enough. It allowed us to fish the tournament and have enough money to get back home. As for the man who found my wallet, he is a Saint. There are very few people who would do what he did. When I was finally able to return his call Sunday evening, I told him to keep all the cash in the wallet (about $150) and send the wallet to me by overnight mail. He refused to keep the money, but said he would withhold what it cost him to send me the wallet. Bless you, Mr. Walker! Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted March 20, 2008 Super User Posted March 20, 2008 I wasn't forsure if you wanted the Paul Harvey version told. The Rest of the Story. Wished I knew you were fishing out of a white Triton. We fished some Sunday as well. We did find some empty beds. I noticed that the water had dropped about 18 inches, so I thought the bass backed out deeper. Its always tough for me when the gates are open. That don't happen alot on Fork and Florida bass don't seem to like it on Fork. Good luck at Guntersville. Quote
Junebug Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I was just reading through the forum. I am a brand new poster, but I noticed you were going to meet some of the BR guys at Guntersville this weekend. That's awesome, I live about an hour from there. Are a lot of you going to be there? Have y'all been planning this trip for a long time? That just sounds like a lot of fun! Quote
IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Look in the general section at the top above the dark line -titled 3rd annual bass resource road trip. You will be up to speed after that read! Quote
bighed Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Sorry I missed you at Fork Mike. I saw the guy weigh the 1/2 pounder so we must have been close. My son got 5th I think but fishing was tough. Fought the wind and didn't have a bite all day. Got flagged down mid day to tow some one in which we did. Broke the TM prop as soon as we went back to fishing. Oh well, next time I hope. Good luck on the Road Trip and have a great time! Quote
skippinfool Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Let us know how your trip goes on Guntersville. We'll be heading there 4/5-4/12 and can't wait to get to some warmer weather. Fish on! Quote
