Well, it's been a while since I've caught a decent Bass.  Have to go back to 01/10/08 when I caught a 5/7 on this very same bait.

Today was sunny/clear with a 'bluebird' sky, little wind, and air temps in the high 70's.  Last night we had a severe wind storm blow through with a little rain and I didn't expect to do much catching today.

I was ripping  this bait  as fast as I could with my Daiwa 6.3/1 reel and it paid off.  I caught four 1 lbers and then hooked up with a large Bass.  She jumped twice during the 30 second fight and threw the bait on the second jump.  I suspected the original hooks that were on there had dulled a bit but they passed the "dig into my thumbnail test".  Caught two more 1 lbers along that bank and then moved on around this 7 acre farm pond that belongs to my former boss.

After about two hours, I was back at the same area and started throwing that same bait and retrieving it as fast as I could.  Then I felt a bite and worked her quickly to the bank and I actually believe it was the same Bass that got off earlier.  Don't know for sure but I did get a good look at the first one when she jumped.

No bed-fanning marks on the tail so I think it's still a little early for bedding just yet.  Other ponds I've been in in my boat lately have had water temps in the high 50's, low 60's.

6 lbs, 12 ounces, 26 inches on an Aurora Black TN70 bait.

Belly shot

Sad to say, she inhaled that bait and the rear hooks pierced into some of her gills and she bled quite a bit.  I held her in the water for a few minutes and she did swim away.  Hope she lives to spawn soon.

Great fishing young man.  Your posts have caused me to go out and buy 2 of the lures you use.  Now where in the heck have you been?  Some of us were about to send out the search plane.

P.S.   You need to have your wife start cutting your jeans into shorts for ya.  One pant leg looks a bit (lot) shorter than the other.

Thanks y'all.  I've been almost depressed with my fish-less months.  It's been too cold, windy, and rainy for my tastes but we surely need the rain.

BB:  That TN70 is the very best lipless cr/bait I've ever used.  It's caught me several nice Bass with its different sound, wiggle, and colors.  I do have two more traps in the mail from a friend who is also a lure maker and they cost even more than the Jackalls :o.

LR, way to slip back in the saddle! As usual, great fish and story to boot. Been missing those. I need to come down there and check out some of your tackle. That combo looks incredible. I bought 5 Kistlers based on some of your posts made here and on both the the Kistler web page and TT. That looks to be a Evergreen or Megabass rod sporting a Pixy? is that correct?

Someone mentioned that you go to a cigar forum. Can you recommend one?

               Thanks, Rob

Thanks again y'all.  I appreciate the looks and the comments.

Rob:  Be glad to.  I regularly visit and post on two:  Cigar Pass and Cigar Weekly.

Yes, that's a Megabass Etna rod and a Custom(Yellow) JDM Daiwa TD-Z reel.  My orange Pixy's on another rod.  Still have and use three Kistler LTA Heliums and I'm very glad you got yours and like them too.
