IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Went out today to a watershed my good fishing buddy has permission to fish. He has been talking this body O water up for a while. Last year he pulled 2 8's out there and needless to say I didn't hesitate to accept. We launched at about 10:30 this morning on the better than usual KS watershed ramp. The forecast was for temps up to 70 today but it was still a little chilly. He motored over to where he thought we would find some fish. A old creek channel with some standing timber on both sides of the channel. The channel was about 10' in depth with the shore side rishing fairly quick and the far side rising to 3 to 4 feet. A quick look at the electronics said water temp of 50 degrees. Second or third cast I caught a nice little crappie. A few more cast and I caught the first Bass of the day. A chunky 3lb little fighter. We proceeded to catch fish in the 2 to 5 lb fish as we worked towards to the top of the lake and back out. totalling a about a dozen solid jr. toads. I was throwning my favorite: TX rigged Baby Brush Hog in watermellon with dyed chartruse tails. My buddy was switching between a wooly hawg tail and a jig and pig. we came out of the channel into the main lake. We stayed in the creek though and worked up the bank. We were both excited to fish the bank all the way to the dam. The bank was steep and dropped into 15 to 20 foot of water pretty quick. It was covered with big boulders and still had standing timber out from the bank for about 15 to 20 feet. It looked fantastic and by the experiance I had at the top of the lake I thought we were going to whack em. No such luck. We fished it slow with a variety of baits. No luck. We fished the dam, and he caught one on a crank. We had around 13 fish in the boat. The largest being 4.11 on the digi. We made some peanut butter and honey sammys. We headed back to the creek channel and the top of the lake. Jackpot! A couple hours had passed since were there earlier and the water had picked up 6 degrees! Well; the fish started eating. We caught many more fish mostly being in the same size which by my standards are darn good fish. 2 to 5 lbs. I pitched the baby B hog into a laid down cedar and was immediatly inhaled. I set the hook; big swirl and the fight was on. She immediatly ran into the wood and I was hung up. Kept the pressure on my bud said take your time and I politely said, I don't have any time! He mashed the TM up to 90 and we sped over there. I could see the head of the fish and my line wrapped on the stick just above the water. I kept the pressure on and we were on him. My bud layed down and lipped the fish, handed her to me and untangled my line from the limb from which she hung. She had nice shoulders and belly full of shad! He said she might go 10 and said maybe high 8's! She went: My new 'verified' PB! I was stoked to say the least! The next cast I was eaten again ;D 6.9! Daddy Likey! we fished the day out and ended up with 43 fish in the boat and honestly only about 5 of those were less than 2lbs with a majority being 2-5 pound Kansas chunks! WOW what a day! Sorry for the long post, still on cloud nine here ol Kansas. Happy Releasing, H.G. Quote

Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted March 13, 2008 Super User Posted March 13, 2008 Ps. I noticed the ugly purple towel with the cat on it. Think how good the day could have been without it. :) If you are going to wipe your dirty hands off on a towel, it's good to do it on one that is already ruined. ;D My first choice would have to be a black and gold one though. 8-) I am still WOWed by your day Quote

IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 I am still high as a kite! I haven't seen very many watersheds I fish or get to fish that have shad in them. I suspect this may be one of the reasons this place had so many nice fish in it! I pulled this one from one of the 4's. I saw many tails in their throats but this one was only about 1/2 way down. Thanks everyone! I am glad you liked the PIC-U-MENTRY ! It was one of the best days I have had as far as quality! A true mind blower! I was very fortunate his regular buddy couldn't make it and I got the call! I don't mind sitting on his bench! Happy Releasing, H.G. KU/RW I like my power cat towel. Maybe if you guys ante up it will bring you similar luck as it always has brought me fantastic luck! ;D I had a black and gold towel but I used it to wipe my _ _ _ ! I also had a red towel but it isn't worth bringing anymore; it used to be pretty nice but now it's full of heartbreak. My blue and red towel is stuck in my old truck engine being used as a oil cap before that I brought it with me to wipe my sweaty arm pits on hot days. So I didn't have to get the Wildcat towel dirty ;D I consdier fish slime a very valent thing for a towel to bestowed with. Quote
