paul. Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 i was able to get out a few hours yesterday and go after 'em. the water was high and dirty just like it has been, but the difference was yesterday the water temp was 54 instead of 46 like earlier this week. fished for a while with no luck and then finally found 'em in about 4-5ft. of water on a large main-lake flat with some grass. i was trying out my new rattle bait, the xcalibur xr50 against a spro aruku shad and old faithful, the rattle trap. long story short, the xcalibur kicked butt and took names. several fish on that bait (black/gold color) and none on ANYTHING else. EVERYTHING else i tried just zeroed and believe me, i tried plenty. they were still kinda lethargic, and were just kinda suckin' that rattle bait in and loading up the rod rather than smackin' the paint off of it like they sometimes do. caught several 1's and 2's, one that was probably 3 plus, and then a real nice one that went 7-7. ;D i was pretty happy to meet her too. tried some other spots after the bite slowed up on the flat but blanked so i went back to my hot area and caught a few more after they had a chance to regroup. the water temp started dropping with the sprinkling rain and evening coming on and the fish moved back out off the flat and suspended in about 10 ft. of water. they shut completely down then, and that was all she wrote. but i was glad i was able to capitalize on the feeding window. here's a couple of pix of the biggun. sorry, but i was by myself so all i could do was just take a couple of pix of the fish. released as usual. hope y'all are catchin' some too.
