Perfect Hook Set Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 DAY 1 Yesterday The story The details After work I went to a local school pond which was partially open again. The shore was covered with cat tails and only one spot in this area was open enough to cast from. This is the same spot 2 weeks prior where my buddy had missed a decent size large mouth Casting a brown double rattle double blade spinnerbait. About 5 cast into the afternoon of fishing a get a hard hit, set the hook and reeled this one in. I left about 20 minutes after that fish to lake K which is a Big Bass/Carp lake and was skunked for the 2 or so hours I was there for. I was at the pond and lake for about 2-3 hours the hole time out the only hit/bite I had was from that one fish. I ended up seeing some Fox and was entertained by them before I left Lake K - Home I have some pics if anyone wants to see them DAY 2 Today My buddy and I go in search of open water out of 4 places we find one Big Bass/Crappie lake which was partially open. We fished lake UP K for about 1 - 1½ hours (no rain) and neither of us had a hit We tried many types of hard and soft baits Since he lives near the school pond we headed there. We both broke 2 openings through the cat tails to fish We catch nothing for about 20 minutes and then the rain starts pouring down. He moves to the spot where I caught my bass yesterday His phone rings and its for me as I walk to him "Mike a got a nice one" I quickly get off the phone in time to see him lose a 4lb (if not more) LMB right at his feet... Nooooooo He cast his spinnnerbait out again and this time catches a 2lbs Again before those two fish and the rest of the time after (½ an hour) we had no hits... I don't understand why we only catch fish in this exact spot of the pond and why nothing was caught in either of the other BIGGER places we tried. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 That's a pretty fish there man It's nice to see a fellow CT resident startin' to catch some bass. Did you try suspending jerkbaits? Those are by far my most productive baits this time of year, and I'm heading out this Saturday, rain or shine, with 4 rods, 3 rigged with jerkbaits, one with a crankbait 8-) And again, that's a really pretty bass - good picture quality too. ba7ss3in Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Nice fish, there may be some type of structure under water there. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 5, 2008 Super User Posted March 5, 2008 That is a nice pic. Congratulations! 8-) Quote
Davis Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Nice fish! We are still froze up here in NY. Makes me wonder how you have thawed water over there. I'm jealous. Quote

We tried suspending minnows and all places though at the pond I only threw mine about 5 times... Ooh Sat where are you heading to? I am hoping to go tomorrow at some point I have had this camera for about a half of year now and I have realized that most of my "good shots" come out very clear with a lot of color... Davis some of these places are open because, I have been talking to my buddies about some of these places recently must be my hot breath To be honest I don't know why they are open, I passed one pond that was iced over yesterday and after the rain last night and the warmth this morning gah still iced over... I hope I can get one of you guys to meet me down here and we could hit all of these small ponds... Though with my luck that will be the day the bass go on strike! Thanks again Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Perfect Hook Set - I'm going to Silver Lake in Berlin, CT on Saturday. It's got tons and tons of smaller-sized aggressive bass (and huge crappies, some perch, and pickerel), so I'm just lookin to go out and get some numbers. Maybe after I get my fix, and a little closer to the spawn, I'll look for some big mommas ;D Quote
