So today is March 1st, the first day of the State vs State contest.  The small lakes near me are still under ice.  I went to Smithville lake which is approximately 7200 acres and all the coves were iced over, not to mention we had 35 mph winds today.  I found a spot by some rip rap that was shallow with no ice and I worked out the rust on my pitching for about 30 minutes.  We were over 60 degrees today, but starting tomorrow night we drop back to lows in the teens and 20s and we are supposed to get some more snow.  The snow in my front yard hasn't melted yet.  By next weekend we're supposed to make it back to the 50s.  I'm really dying to get out on the water.

I was debating on whether or not to try it today.  I decided the freakin hurricane force winds were too much for my little boat.  Seems like that's the way it is in the spring ... get a nice day, but the winds always blow too hard. >:(

Nice decision KU. I saw on the news last night that a man drowned at Lone Star when the boat him and his friend took on water. His friend was ok but he didn't make it. >:(

:o WOW :o

I hadn't heard that.

*****  I just read the story.  Sad.  Niether of them were wearing life jackets.  With water that cold, a life jacket is a must.  I wear my auto inflate at all times until the water gets near the 60* mark.  In fact I think this is important enough I am going to start another thread .....

I read about the two guys out at Lone Star in the paper today.  One was 47 and the other was over 60.  If not for the actions of some other people putting themselves in harm's way, both guys would have died.  The younger one survived.
