I bought a canoe last week and I was dying to get it out on the water.  I finally got the chance yesterday morning.  I called a buddy up, loaded my 15.5ft beast up, and took off to a little lake here on post.  It took forever to remember how to get there, but three turnarounds later, we were unloaded and in the water.

I was rigged up with a firetiger rat-l-trap and a carolina rigged lizard.  Yes, I know.  C-Rigs in a canoe are dangerous, but that lizard picked up a nice two pounder about fifteen minutes from the start.  A few casts later, another two pounder slammed into it.

We ran up into a pocket and shad went crazy.  They were everywhere.  We decided to beach the canoe and fish the shad.  We tried for about an hour.  C-Rig, T-Rig, topwaters, and spinnerbaits...no fish.

We loaded up and took off back towards the truck.  By this time, I was getting hungry and I didn't pack lunch, so it was time to go.  We fished a creek channel and picked up two more three pounders on a t-rigged brush hog and my **PROTOTYPE**.  All in all, a pretty good day.

**PROTOTYPE** is a lure in the testing phase by the research and development department of my 1 man company lol.  PROTOTYPE is a super, duper, uber secret that I cannot reveal on here until it is complete.  The good news is that PROTOTYPE works better than I thought it would and I will actually persue this lure.  So from now on, just know that with any luck, PROTOTYPE may be coming to stores near you  ;) ;D

OMG IM DYING! WHAT IS THE PROTOTYPE!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

(thats not gonna cut it is it? youre not gonna tell me are you?)

nice job catchin fish :)

oh, and why is fishing a c-rig in a canoe dangerous? :-?

The prototype is actually three things combined.

C-Rigs in a canoe isn't dangerous...unless there is two people in the boat.  I like long c-rigs and my buddy was terrified.  It was the first time he saw one.  He thought for sure that a 1/2oz piece of brass was going to kill him :P

No jig fishing, I'm shocked!

I tossed a home made jig around a little bit with no luck.  It seemed like they wanted something a little more weightless and still on the bottem.  That's the ingredients for texas and carolina rigs, which appeal to me just as much as jig fishing.

I'm in agreement that bass fishing out of a canoe is a really awesome experience.  I've gone in little pond hopper pontoon boats, jon boats, and big bass boats.  Now there is a special place in my heart for a fiberglass monster, there is something to this canoe thing.  I just passed up an offer for this weekend to go fish Fork.  I thought about it and instead, I'm taking the canoe out to one of the on-post lakes this weekend.  Weird huh?

I have a 6 person Coleman inflatable raft and I love it! You can slide right OVER the weed beds with no problem. Plus its quiet. I'm able to find those small holes and plop a jig down there and shake it. Love it.

I fish out of a 14ft canoe, and I love it, as long as the wind is less than 10mph.

Only reason i'll buy a boat is to be able to be on the lake even if the weather isn't so good.
