Super User Catt Posted September 28, 2007 Super User Posted September 28, 2007 Slipped away to the marsh for a couple hours only catching several tighteyes but did run across this big boy. Quote

Super User Catt Posted September 28, 2007 Author Super User Posted September 28, 2007 Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge Lacassine NWR, in Cameron and Evangeline Parishes in southwestern Louisiana, was established on 12/30/37 by Executive Order No. 7780 as "a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife." The refuge is nearly 35,000 acres in size. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Whad'ya get 'em on Catt? (this better not be another Boga Grip plug, ;D) Quote
Mrs. Matstone Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 That thing is huge and scary and I think you should be very careful fishing anyplace close to that. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Have you ever seen Catt?....that one might be a draw Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 29, 2007 Author Super User Posted September 29, 2007 LBH, I got him on Kodak EasyShare Z740 with 10X zoom TheRedTorpedo, I would say around 12-14' in length; the absolutely largest I've ever seen in Lacassine Mrs. Matstone, the reason for 10X zoom is that there is no need to get close bassnleo, I did think about a tail gate party before next weeks Florida/LSU game; that gator tail would be mighty tasty cut into steaks and put on the pit. Is this for real? If so, is that the best eating part, the tail meat? What is it comparable too? Is it fishy? Gamey? Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 29, 2007 Author Super User Posted September 29, 2007 Dude alligator is awesome fried, grilled, or in a Sauce Piquant; the tail can be cut into steaks; any of the meat can be fried or made into a Sauce Piquant. Many times for a Super Bowl party I would take the entire body marinate it over night in Wishbone Italian salad dressing and slow cook it on a Bar-B-Que pit. Gator doesn't taste fishy or gamey, it has a taste all it's own; I've never had anyone tell me they didn't like it as long as I never tell them what it was before hand. Some thing about a mental picture Quote

Some thing about a mental picture Florida vs LSU is the Super Bowl.......... That is a big gator and here in the south there are a lot of them (I'm sure Catt sees them reg also). I see 3 or 4 (not quite that size often) every trip. You can get a permit to hunt them here every year now. This one was around 10' that I saw not long ago Quote
MemphisFisherman Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Man I sure am glad we don't have croc's around where I fish, if we did I don't think I would fish....I couldn't imagine sticking my rod down into the water trying to get unhung, or liping a fish from the water if there was even the slightest chance a croc could be down there. Ky_Lake_Dude Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 wouldn't a swim be nice and refreshing Quote
Deb Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Wow........what a guard gator that would make He could just hang out in the swimming pool and lounge on the front deck............... : He and the Rott could take turns scaring off unwanted visitors Very cool pics, Catt! Quote
Dirk_Jig---Lure Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 I've only seen 1 gator in my life, at Fork on the first BR trip. I don't think I would want to fish around THAT one!! Quote

tallydude Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Agreed. Gator is excellent. However, it can be a bit chewy if not cooked properly. Quote
AnglerNFuego Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I remeber fishing at the golf course pond down in Jacksonville, Fl and seeing a couple of gators swimming around, not to mention when you hear the babies crying. That always gave me the heebie jeebies. Great picture by the way! Quote
