MattStrykul Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Hey everyone, just got back from the lake and man was it a good, cold time. Caught a new pb of 6.68 lbs on a jig this afternoon. Saturday my brother and I fished the main lake. We tried docks, and steep drops and I only came out with 2 and my brother with 1. The first one I caught was about 2.5-3 pounds and that was on a crankbait, my second was on a jig off a dock which was a dink. Today we stayed in our creek (Peahill) and got on a pattern by gettin up real shallow and throwin jigs into about 20+ ft of water and bouncing them up steep inclines. If it wasn't steep, they weren't there. I caught 7 today and my brother got 2 ALL on jigs. Yesterday and today it was cloudy, and very cold. Water temps under the 50 degree mark. I also got to use my new carrot stick and all I can say is WOW. This is by far the lightest rod I've felt and it fishes extremely well. The first picture is of the fish I caught on a crankbait Saturday, and the rest are from today. All fish were released, as always. Thanks Matt Strykul Quote

Super User burleytog Posted January 14, 2008 Super User Posted January 14, 2008 What model Carrot Stick? Quote
Super User 5bass Posted January 14, 2008 Super User Posted January 14, 2008 Good report Matt and nice catchin'!! Quote
MattStrykul Posted January 14, 2008 Author Posted January 14, 2008 Thanks for the kind words everyone. LBH, the North Face definetly keeps me warm Burley, the carrot stick is a 6'9 MH and I was throwing a 1/2 ounce jig on it (mainly cause I knew they were biting the jig, and who doesn't want to use a new rod?) but it held up extremely well. I just saw at Delo's that they now have 7 XHVY carrot sticks, which is what I'm getting next. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted January 14, 2008 Super User Posted January 14, 2008 Nice fish and congrats on the new PB! 8-) Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 14, 2008 Super User Posted January 14, 2008 Hey Matt, You all did great. For some reason those bass like crankbaits on Gaston. I have had good luck in the past with crankbaits. Keep those pics coming. And are you wearing your PFD? I did not notice it in the pics. Quote
MattStrykul Posted January 14, 2008 Author Posted January 14, 2008 Sam, Yes we do wear are PFDs. We actually have the mustang inflateable ones so I usually just throw it off for the pics. Not to mention it's no fun handling a fish in the net for even a minute without getting that darn pull string stuck! I think it's like 20-30 dollars for a replacement cartrige too. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 14, 2008 Super User Posted January 14, 2008 ;D ;D ;D WOW! ;D ;D ;D Geat fish, nice report and pics, too! 8-) Quote
