Super User Sam Posted December 28, 2007 Super User Posted December 28, 2007 I reread your post and the pond is in your back yard? So this is a Bill Dance fishing adventure? Your back yard pond? Not a lake or river? Then why do you have that beautiful Triton boat? You can just go out the back door, throw something into the pond, catch big bass, and save a fortune on gasoline. Just kidding, of course. Still beautiful fish. You did good! Have a great New Year. Quote

Triton9 Posted December 28, 2007 Author Posted December 28, 2007 yes everyone, the fish is tagged. my dad used to tag almost every fish he caughtfrom late 1996 to 1999, and in 1997 this fish was caught, tagged, and released. that day in 1997, the fish weighed 6 pounds. so this means this fish is VERY old, because remember, these are northern strain largies where i live, and remember how long it takes for a n. strain largie to grow to 6 pounds. so me and my dad did the math, and the fish has to be AT LEAST 11-13 years old :oand its obvious by the the head size and "shoulders" on this fish, that one time in its peak the fish had to have weighed 8 3/4 to 9 1/2 pounds, because this pond has produced MANY 8+ pounders. Happy New Years' everyone! Triton9 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 28, 2007 Super User Posted December 28, 2007 Initially I was surprised the fish hadn't gained two pounds in ten years, but it's early growth was phenomenal. To weigh six pounds in 1997 would have taken at least five years which would make that bass fifteen years old. I think you are right, the fish has probably lost weight as she nears her twilight. LCpointerKILLA Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Thats really cool that your dad tagged them. That bass knew you! Cool pictures, cool pond, and especially cool that you used a pointer-- Quote
tallydude Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Really great pics, Triton. Even cooler story about the tagging. Quote
