paul. Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 i had pretty high expectations when i looked at the weather last night and saw it was going to be about 60 degrees for a high today. what i failed to notice in just glancing at the weather was that this high was going to be in the morning and it was going to get progressively colder as the day wore on as a cold front moved in. > didn't take long to figure out that the bass were in a funk once i got to the lake. i got one bass on a jig and that was it for about an hour. no takers shallow on the trap or s'bait either. matter of fact, all the shallow water i fished was a degree colder than the deep water, so i abandoned hopes of a shallow bite pretty quick. it was obviously gonna be one of those "just be glad you ain't at work" days. ;D well the tube worked last time it was tough, so that's what i fished again today. i caught 10 real quick like in a brushpile/logjam about 15 ft. deep. they were all dinkers, about 1 - 1.5 pounds. i usually don't leave biting fish, but i was hoping for something a little bigger so i moved on. fished 3 hours and caught absolutely nothing anywhere else. > so i went back, resolved to rid the deep brushpile and surrounding area of all the remaining dinks, and squeaked out 6 more on the tube. biggest was probably 2 pounds. that made 16 fish total, but no size to 'em. at least i wasn't at work. the conditions have been real unstable around here. no consistency in the weather or water level at all where i fish. this is just an excuse for my inability to put a nice fish in the boat today i know, but i really think bassin' will pick up once things stabilize. i might try to hit a pond tomorrow or sunday. we'll see what happens then. if i can't bang a biggun soon, i'm gonna have to change my name to "dink caller!" ;D hope y'all are catchin' a few. Under the Radar Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Still not a bad day Paul. Think back real hard now and remember one of those days that you couldn't get the skunk off and would have been really happy to see even half that many little fishies nice color to that one. I know you're joking about the name change, but I think you've earned the one you have now. Merry Christmas Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 paul i really hate seeing that frowny next to your post! id do anything right now for 16 dinks. actually, for me, 16 dinks is a very good day. one of my best days was 18 dinkish fish (biggest probably 2lbs) dont be a "greedy basser" and only consider a good day a day where you catch a few big ones. be glad that you can be on the water : anyway, good job! its good how you can adapt to the fish's needs to catch a few in hard conditions. keep it up man! and that is a very pretty bass Quote
paul. Posted December 22, 2007 Author Posted December 22, 2007 you are right dave. it's just a blessing to be able to go- lunkers, dinks, or none. i "turned the frown upside down" for you buddy. Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 When you can't get the big fish and are catching rats like that just open up the rod box and get out an ultra-light. That will make it better Quote
Hawg Bass Assassin Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Paul, at least your catch'n bass...They could be blugill ;D Craig Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 23, 2007 Super User Posted December 23, 2007 tin2win is right...dinks on UL are a great fight. at one of the farms i fish, there are big bass in the back pond and small to medium bass in the front but huge bluegill in the front. so i'll always have an UL in the front pond and no matter what i hook it feels like a lunker!
