rboat Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Just bought my first cavitron and wondered if I need to put on a trailer hook? Just curious? Thanks. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted October 19, 2008 Super User Posted October 19, 2008 Nope. The basic design of this bait allows for full hookups The rear sits low in the water.I have never missed a fish that struck at this bait.Sure a small few have shook off, but they always get stuck. Quote
-nick- Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 I think you should put a small one on to be safe. The first night i used my cavitron i had 2 what felt like big bass but they ended up shaking it loose. And it happened twice i was pretty upset so i put some trailor hooks on mine and now i never miss a fish. A couple of times the fish was only hanging on to the trailor hook. So to be safe i would go ahead, i mean it wouldnt hurt. Quote
daviscw Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Its up to you. Some people will, some won't. I don't just because its more to worry about. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 19, 2008 Super User Posted October 19, 2008 I never use a trailer hook. 8-) Quote
BossierBassHunter Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 I don't, but if I had one I might, just for the hell of it. They dont seem to miss it a lot though, and I guess that's because it can go so slow, idk. Anyways, throw it around cover either late in the day or earlier morning and be ready for the explosion. I got the most vicious strike of my life on the thing about two feet from the shore, almost needed to change my pants Quote
adclem Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 I tried a trailer hook on mine, but the fish hit it so aggressively it was just more difficult to get them unhooked. So I took the trailer off and still have not missed a fish. These things are awesome. Later, Quote
Bobby Uhrig Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 RBoat, Here is my rule for trailer hooks- When I am fishing a tournament I use a trailer hook-You do not want to miss that fish that could win you the tournament or get you a check . When I am out fun fishing I do not use them. A trailer hook has its pros and cons- It catches a lot of weeds and debris but on the other hand it could help catch that bass of a lifetime. Quote
Bassboss Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 I always like to put a trailer hook on buzz baits, 8 out of 10 times; I'll get them on the trailer hook. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted October 20, 2008 Super User Posted October 20, 2008 If I get that many on the trailer, I start experimenting with other colors. Quote
Super User flechero Posted October 20, 2008 Super User Posted October 20, 2008 If I get that many on the trailer, I start experimenting with other colors. or hooksets or speed of retrieve, or erratic retrieves. That's a classic case of the fish talking to you... No trailer hooks for me. Quote
