What's going on?!?!

Ok so I have encountered an issue that I have never had a problem with before.  At least not as bad as I did yesterday.  I was fishing senkos for only the second time ever.  This was the first outing Ive had where the fish were really hitting them.  I had four separate chances when I had a fish on, set the hook, and began to reel the fish in just to see the fish come off half way in.  I made sure to set the hook hard when I had the fish on but every time they came off.  I am fishing off set hooks and I have never had an issue with them and I am rigging the texas-rigged so what could I be doing wrong?

What size hook are you using?

Regarding all soft plastics:

1. Your rod should be Medium to Heavy Power/ Fast Action with a firm tip.

2. I STRONGLY recommend high quality 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hooks

(Gamakatsu, XPoint and Owner).

3. Hook-set should be quick and firm (snap-set).

4. Maintain tension at all times. If the fish is not running against drag, it should be

moving your way.

Fish should rarely (never) get off a single hook bait/ lure. After landing a few you will gain a great deal of confidence and this will not continue to be a problem.

Before you set the hook are you reeling down until you feel the fish and your line is tight, or setting the hook with slack in the line?

Fishing a Senko isn't like fishing a regular plastic worm. When the fish takes it....he's committed to taking it, period! They will actually try to swallow it almost immediately! No need for an instant hook set. You will see your line start to move off. Reel down until you feel him, as was mentioned above and snap-set fairly hard, but not you don't have to try to break your rod, IF you're using these quality hooks. For 2 yrs. now, every off-set worm hook I've used (those mentioned here above, actually) I've pinched down the barb to facilitate easier hook extraction.  Rarely have I lost a bass.

Try pushing the hook all of the way thru and skin hooking it just under the skin of the senko. It will help you penetrate a little better.
