Super User fourbizz Posted November 7, 2007 Super User Posted November 7, 2007 Well, boys this is a long story, so stick with me. Our local boat dealership was supposed to put on a tournament after their customer appreciation day, which is kind of a big deal, lots of local pros, and one of the elite guys. They ended up unabhle to get the permit for the lake due to extremely low water levels. So we decided to just have a little turkey shoot. The night before I was out in my garage. Now my boat jack recently broke, so I had it sitting on a 3ton flooe jack. I went to lower it and my my finger was on top of the pipe handle of the jack which was in a vertical position. When the boat came down, the dock bumper lip came down on top of my left index finger which was on top of the pipe handle. The jack continued down while the boat didn't > I know have a 17ft boat resting entirely on top of my finger, which is on top of the pipe, which is basically a cookie cutter. It hurts.....BAD :o. There is no one around and it is midnight. After about 15 seconds ( seemed ALOT longer) I somehow managed to lift the boat off of my finger with only one hand :-/. I look down and see blood, ALOT of blood, so I head for the house. When I get inside I get my finger under the sink and see the damage. Not good. The pipe had made it to the bone and I have a semi circle gash where it did. :'(. I need stitches. I don't have health insurance. I have a turkey shoot in 4 hours. So I did what any self respecting, manly, bass fisherman would do. Super glue. And I taped it up real tight to hold it together and put it in a splint so that I could not pull it open or bump it. Then I got the rest of my gear together and went to bed. After a solid 3 hours of sleep, I got up and headed to the lake. My finger hurt. Well at least the part before the near amputation, the tip was quite numb When we arrive, we get a good idea of what the field will be. 9 boats, all incredible sticks on this body of water, 4 of which are local pros, and another the undeniable swimbait king on this lake. Ok, tough day ahead, but we were on a great swimbait bite. Only problem: Blue bird skies. Not good for our pattern AT ALL. So we head out to our money spot. First cast with my $90 triple trout finds it cannonballing down on top of a rock > Its all jacked up. Fishable, but ugly So a recap thus far: Nearly amputated finger, competition way out of our league, screwed by the weather, ruined $90 bait. > > > > > We were fishing a 3 fish limit, which lends heavily toward swimbait fishing. So I kept to that religiously most of the day. My partner dart headed on 4lb test and managed to scrape up a 2 3/4lb spot and a 2 1/4 lb spot. Oh and a barely legal keeper Weigh in was at three and it was 2:30. We had little fish in the box and stiff competition. My day sucked. Then as often happens while swimbaiting, something unexpected happened. With 15 minutes of fishing left to go before a long run to weigh in, my budy gets a 5.41lb spot to go on the swimbait. SWEEEEEET! We were still gonna lose, but at least we were gonna do it gracefully. After all was said and done, it wasn't that bad of a day, all things considered. I remember why I hate that lake. Oh yeah, and we won too ;D Quote
MattStrykul Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Thats too bad about your finger and swimbait, but congrats on the win man! Quote
deepsessions Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 sounds like the time I went to the mall with my buddy and his older bro. We got there just before closing and my bud's bro runs in to beat the doors. My dumb @$$ hops out of the back seat and slams this monster door from a grand tourino on my middle, ring, and pinky finger. Just my luck the effin' door was locked! I had to wait for my friend to get back while my fingers were smashed knuckle deep! talk about the longest 5 minutes of shock congrats on the W sounds like you were fishin' hOrroville? as for the triple trout atleast the paint job already sucks! Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Way to stick in there Bizz. How's the finger now? Keep a close eye on that bad boy for infection. Quote
Guest muddy Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Hey stick with it Fourbizz Hey serious, jagged cuts are the dangerous ones, please make sure you have a current Tetanus Shot. We should all keep that current, because fishing accidents frequently leave jagged cuts. Quote
BackOnTheWater Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 More proof for the ol' "a bad day fishing..." cliche! Hope the finger's OK...congrats on the win! A 5 lb spot is a real pig! Quote

Guest avid Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 The pipe had made it to the bone and I have a semi circle gash where it did I keep tellin you and tellin you Gotta lay off the pipe dude 8-) And how come there's no video of you gluing your finger together? How is Russ ever gonna make "BassReourceBloopers" if we keep passing up moments like this? : I am soooooooooooooooo disappointed. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted November 8, 2007 Author Super User Posted November 8, 2007 thanks guys. the finger is actually really good. i took the glue off after the t-shoot, and after having it nice and tight for almost 24 hours, it looked fairly good and it still hasn't pulled open or anything. I have been wearing a protective splint to work every day. kind of a PITA. but there is no sign of infection or anything, and I think I might be able to avoid losing the nail. now the bad part is, is that it is my left index finger and the tip is 100% numb. this sucks because it is the finger that I lay against the blank when I am worm and jig fishing.basically how i detect bites. booo. also very difficult to type efficiently, even without the splint on, so if you guys see an uncharacteristically high number of typos, thats why. but back to fishing, it sure felt good to whip those guys. the kids in the 25 year old boat sent them and their wrapped trucks and boats home crying ;D The guy that I fished with is fishing the FPT TOC this weekend could win a new ranger! I really think he might do it! That would be cool! Quote
eastkybass Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Congrats on the win. hope the finger gets alot better. Quote
