Olebiker Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 The best laid plans of mice and fishermen.... I got on Lake Talquin an hour before daylight thinking that, with the full moon, I might pick up a topwater fish or two. Didn't happen. Plan B was to fish the river channel where it came close to a point. Too windy. Plan C was to fish the docks. Again, too windy. I finally went back up to the end of a creek and started working my way out with a Senko. I was protected from the wind and was able to fish. This big girl thought the Senko looked pretty good" She went 7 pounds, six ounces. Quote

Super User cart7t Posted September 30, 2007 Super User Posted September 30, 2007 So do you fish Talquin often? I ask because I vacation down at PCB and have wondered about the bass fishing there and at Deer Pointe lake. Quote
Lightninrod Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Wow! What a great BASS Dick!!! All my relatives on both sides of my family are from in and around(Sneads, Chattahoochee, Greensboro, etc.) Tallahassee. Use to love it when we went there for summer vacations. An uncle owned Mingaldorf Motors back in the 40s. Potts Road was named after an aunt and uncle. Dan Quote
Olebiker Posted October 1, 2007 Author Posted October 1, 2007 So do you fish Talquin often? I ask because I vacation down at PCB and have wondered about the bass fishing there and at Deer Pointe lake. I just started fishing it since I have gotten a boat big enough. It reminds me of the fishing I knew back in Kentucky as a young man. Talquin is better known as a crappie (locally known as speckled perch or specks) lake, but the bass fishing is awfully good. Quote
Jorge Campos Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 can someone tell me what the best way to fish senkos is? how were you fishing the senko when you caught that beautiful bass? Quote
Olebiker Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 can someone tell me what the best way to fish senkos is? how were you fishing the senko when you caught that beautiful bass? Everything you ever wanted to know about Senkos is at http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1121527643. I caught that one fishing the Senko weightless, using a 4/0 Gamakatsu G-Lock hook, rigged texposed. I cast it, let it drop vertically, and let it sit for a few seconds. I then lift it a foot or two and let it drop again. I fish it on a pretty slack line to allow it to drop as nearly vertical as possible. Because of that, I rarely feel the bass hit. I just see the line move off to the side. That's when I strike. Try it. You'll like it. Quote
Olebiker Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 i cant see the pic. bummer You may have to refresh your page. My pictures are on Comcast and they have been having some problems for the last few days. The picture is at http://home.comcast.net/~olebiker/Talquin930071.jpg Quote

rbrick Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Thought I'd put a plug in for my hometown lake,Lake Talquin. The lake has become a very good bass fishery. From 2000 to 2002 the lake was stocked with nearly half a million hachery bass and the stocking has been a huge success. These fish have become large and numbers have been way up. the following is a detailed evaluation of the stocking program. If your not interested in reading the whole thing scroll down to the last paragraph as it is a summary of the program. http://research.myfwc.com/features/view_article.asp?id=24239 Quote
