Super User Tin Posted October 21, 2007 Super User Posted October 21, 2007 Ok fishing a tourney today, and missed 3 fish first thing on a jig. Throwing a 3/8 oz, Terminator Pro Top secret, in black and blue, with a zoom super chunk on the back. You would either see your line taking off to the side, or you would feel that initial thump, set tthe hook and no fish on the other end. All 3 times when I reeled up the jig half the trailer is missing. And the thumps or weight you would feel isnt that of a sunfish or a small fish, they all felt solid. So I went to a quarter ounce with the same trailer, and then a smaller trailer for about a hour and a half and didnt get touched. Then went back to a 3/8 with a smaller trailer, nothing, go back to a super chunk trailer, picked a 3 pounder then missed 2 more in the last hour. I have been pretty much living by a jig the past 3 years and just couldnt figure this one out. Talked to a few good jig fisherman that I know I can trust after the tourney and they said the exact same thing. Just a wierd bite, like they were short striking, but wouldnt hit a smaller or light jig. Also, on this lake it usually takes 5 for 12 pounds + to win. Today it was a guy with a 5 pounder and another for 7 pounds, I had 3rd, with just over 5 pounds. There were 18 boats and a lot of 1 fish weigh-ins. Any input. Was it me, the jig-bite, the lake? I'm really confused right know... Quote
basspro48 Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Sounds like it was just an off day, the fish weren't quite in a feeding mood maybe... Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted October 21, 2007 Super User Posted October 21, 2007 Don't feel bad man, I put up with the same thing all day. Left the lake with one hookup, just shy of the two pound mark. I hate days like this too but there's always tomorrow. Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 21, 2007 Author Super User Posted October 21, 2007 I was really considering that but I didnt want to jump to that idea. I just want some input so I can learn and figure out if there was something I could have done different. I fish that place about 25-30 times a year and have never seen anything like today. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Your dad and I noticed the same thing,...it wasn't just the jig. Even though we were the camera boat, we made some casts in the am. Mike J was working the same bank after we did and I watched him get the call 2 times but came up empty and he's not a slow-poke on setting on them. Oh well, that 3 you had was still in the upper echelon at the scales. Great job securing 3rd, Great Day As usual,...tin2win,...in the $$ Did YOU bring home a souvenir? (that was MY joke BTW,lmao) Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Mike, remember last weekend when we went out, I was having the same problem with the 1/8 oz jigs. Lots of short strikes, but no commits. Russ suggested in my case it was perch hitting it.... Anyway, I'm out the door There's fish to be caught somewhere.... Quote
