FivePoundBluegill Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 I have a pond which is practically in my backyard...well its actually a short walk down the street from my house. I have been fishing it frequently and I usually use green senkos, flukes, or finess worms, topwater in the pond. I do not throw many hard baits because there is so much brush the hard baits can get stuck in around the lake. Recently I have not been haveing as good of luck as I was haveing at the start of the season. I decided to try a white senko instead of the green which has been the only color I have thrown in the pond. The result was I caught three bass that were around 14-15 inches in two hours as well as one monster bass that was 18 inches( the second biggest one I have caught in this small pond). Here is a pic of the big fish....it was 18 inches, how much you guys thing it weighed. I guess a little over three pounds.... Quote
MattDPVN Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Thats a nice fish, I wish I was better at using a senko. Quote
ZombyGuru Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 preference to the white senko eh, who wulda thunk it. Nice fish man. I also use green senkos religously looks like i'm going to have to diversify. Quote

I personally think they got used to the green one being thrown at them and went crazy for the white one since they have not seen it before. Well thats my guess..... Quote

FivePoundBluegill Posted October 2, 2007 Author Posted October 2, 2007 Thats a nice fish, I wish I was better at using a senko. There are so many ways to use this type of bait. It has become my favorite lure over the last year. Check this out for some good ways to use senkos.... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1121527643 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 2, 2007 Super User Posted October 2, 2007 Nice bass. Sometimes, especially when the bass are feeding predominately on minnows or shad, white is the ticket. Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 2, 2007 Super User Posted October 2, 2007 A white Senko. I have not thrown a white Senko in three years. I will give it a try at my local pond. The fish in the pond are hitting in-line spinnerbaits. Caught three yesterday on the in-line spinners. They don't seem interested in any Senkos, jerkbaits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits or plastics. I'll give that white Senko a try. Thanks for sharing and giving us old guys another suggestion to consider. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted October 3, 2007 Super User Posted October 3, 2007 Well done! A friend of mine has been doing well on cream white big ikas. Quote
Guest avid Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 You'll get so good with the senko, your bound to get bored with it. At least that's what happened to me. It is a surefire bait, and is my go-to MUST CATCH A BASS RIGHT NOW bait, but the hard baits are way more fun to fish. Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Nice bass man. Looks like the 2.5-3lbers I've seen my friend pull out of my local pond. I'd guess around 2-14 - 3-2. Looks like a nice 3lber though. Congrats on the fish. I normally only throw the white senkos when going after smallies in clear water with decent current. My other favorite colors for largemouth are purple or natural, watermelon, or my all time favorite pumpkinseed. I like the swim senkos for the pumpkin seed. I never thought I'd be a worm fisher because I'm not exactly patient but the swim senko has so many applications and you can fish it so many ways, with a slow constant steady retrieve, hopping it across the bottom, popping it like a jig, dragging it over cover or mats, etc. Gary Yamamoto is a genius. I agree the senko is a sure fire bait and great way to put a fish in your live well or land it or whatever, but as Avid said lately I've kind of tried to learn new baits and get better with the hard baits just because they are fun to fish and they can trigger GREAT reaction strikes. I've had fish slam my Mann's cranks, Rapala baits and Strike King spinners. I've prob caught about 3/4 of my 60 fish this summer on senkos though. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Nice fish man, I wish I had a nice pond like that right down the street... And Avid, I know what you mean. When I started, all I used were black senkos, then I diversified my arsenal to include pumpkinseed and watermelon, and used those three baits almost exclusively for almost a year. Needless to say, I have become bored with the senko. It's an amazing bait, but now I pretty much only use it when the bite is really tough or if I really think it's head and shoulders above any other bait for the conditions. It's much more fun for me to catch a fish on pretty much any bait other than a senko. Never tried white before, but it looks like it works just fine FivePoundBluegill 8-) Quote

I have just gotten into senko fishing this year so maybe I will get bored with it. I dont know if I will though since it seems to catch me a decent fish every outing. Im going to my local sporting goods store today to pick up the black/blue flake senkos. From what I have heard they work great. It realy seems the color change helped though because I was not catching as many good bass with the green ones recently. I also havent tried all of the ways to use a senko yet so I have a lot more ways of fishing the senko to try before I get bored with it completely. Yeah I agree catching nice bass on topwater and other hard jerk baits is much more fun. Quote
tritz18 Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 nice fish i'm planning on using a 5 inch white senko texas rigged on saturday Quote
