MasterBasster09 Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Hey guys...I've been away for awhile but i'm back. The wife and i just had a baby in July and she is back at work..My little man is now old enough to go to the sitter and I'm back fishing!! First time I have been since April. Went to the Rock yesterday with my Gradnfather-in law in his little 2 man boat. We fished on Heath lake which is only open the first ten days of the month. We decided to throw some do-nothings in flooded timber and 10 minutes in i caught a nice 2 & 1/2 pounder. The conditions were really good in the morning. Cool temps and overcast skys. After a few slicks by both of us the wind got up and made fighting that little 2 man almost unbearable. I looked around the lake and saw a big high bank that i had fished a few times before but never had any succes there. ZERO. I told him...lets get out of this wind and go fish over there on that big high bank. He told me the same thing i was thinking..."never caught any over there but we need to get out of this wind!" After a few uneventful casts we went around the ben and i saw a nice log laying in the water which was around 10-15 feet off this slope with a constant slope out into about 25 feet of water. I had changed to a Culprit 7.5 inch Red Shad (my favorite worm) Texas rig. I made a cast around the big laydown and got a POP and my line started heading out. I immediatly hammered a hook set and knew i had a pretty good fish on....I was hollering to my GFL "get the net...pretty good fish!" Of course in the crowded little 2 man the net was burried under all kinds of junk. MY GFL staggerd and fumbled while i fought the fish and after a couple of jumps we got her in the boat. A nice 5.25 lber. A quick picture and release and then the bottom fell out!! The wind got worse and the rain started falling. We got out of there but at least i got about 4 hours on the water and boated a couple of nice Bass. Included is a pic: The moral of the story is this: If you are going to the lake in a small boat....take as little as possible. Never give up on a spot you have never had any success at. My only regret was i didn't get a chance to throw a pig n jig in that timber which was my plan for later in the day. There's always next time though. Have a good day fishing brothers!!! It's good to be back fishing! Quote

FivePoundBluegill Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Very well written report. Nice to hear about the entire day someone had in detail. Seems you had a good day with a 5 pounder and a 2.5 pounder. How did your grandfather in law do? Quote

Casting is a problem for him especially when we fish flooded timber but mainly he just likes to get out on the lake. I was just proud that he did catch a couple of fish! Quote
Jake. Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I could never go that long without fishing. Great Job! ;D Quote
