pokey Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Does anyone use the 5" leeches for dropshotting? Just picked up a bucket, and used them a little so far with decent results. Wacked 12-15 bass(nothing huge) on a historically tough lake. Just looking for anyone elses input. Quote
simplejoe Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 No I never tried the leeches but, I use the 4" minnow and I had great results on smallmouth. Quote
pokey Posted October 9, 2008 Author Posted October 9, 2008 i was curious about the minnows. How are they for durability? I thought the leeches lacked durability but definately caught fish. Quote
elnaer Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 I've used the green shakey worms and got great results Quote
Bass Fear Me Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Although I've been bass fishing for years I am just now trying Gulp Minnows. For me they seem to be very effective. I don't know how many fish one should catch but it seems I probably average fifteen or so strikes before it rips so bad around the hook I either lose it to a strike or just discard it. Does this sound about right to you other guys? Quote
flatbass Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I have used the Gulp turtleback worm for several years. I have had good luck with them but they are expensive, over $5.00 a pack. they don't last very long either, you are lucky to get over one fish per worm. Quote

pokey Posted October 14, 2008 Author Posted October 14, 2008 Bass fisherman, about how far off the bottom do you have your drop shot hook?Do you use that special drop shot hook? Quote
BASS fisherman Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 I should have stated that that isn't me in the pics. He is a member of the bass club I am in. Although I did catch some fish that weekend with a 5" drop shot leech. I was fishing the hook about 14 inches above the weight. But that distance can vary and be critical on whether you get bit or not. I was using the stand out drop shot hook. But just about any hook will work as long as it isn't gigantic. Some do work better than others though. I prefer the stand out hooks best. simplejoe Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 i was curious about the minnows. How are they for durability? I thought the leeches lacked durability but definately caught fish. they're pretty durable,I change about every five fish or so cuaght on them. But I cast how many times to get those fish and I re-dip them in the container about every 10-15 casts. Last weekend my family and I were up camp my son and I were shallow river fishing from the bank I rigged my son's rod with 4" minnow and a splitshot 6" from the hook and I was using roostertail and my 5 yr old son out fished me. He caught 8 smb and I caught 5. That's my little man ;D Quote
