Due to the heat and rain I have not been fishing for the last three weekends. Well the heast finally broke a little and it was not raining, so I decided to take my wife fishing Sunday afternoon. I put in on the NE Cape Fear river and ran to a creek that I have not really fished but I knew it had alot of cover and laydowns. Well after getting to the creek I tied on a black with Chartruese green jig that I found in an old tackle box. I started working this jig near some mats painfully slow, when I caught a smaller 12- 13 inch bass. Nothing to really brag about in size but it is the first Bass I have caught all summer, it was also the fisrt Bass I have ever caught in the river and the first I have caught on a jig. I did not catch anything else but my wife was using the smae lure and rod and had somthing hit it a pull some drag, but she pulled it from it mouth and it took my skirt. She also caught a nice cat fish that might have went 3-4 pounds on her little 4 1/2 ft UL rod. The fish broke off just as I went to land it in the net, but she had to the boat twice before I could get to the back where she was fishing.  She also caught a few panfish as well. Kind oo a mixed bag but it was nice to be on the water. I think I might be on to something with this jig fishing in this creek, I hear the baitmonkey calling. He is telling me I need more jigs and jig rod, as I was using a MH spinning rod with 12# line.
