Ballpark Frank Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I went out on Wheeler, west of Decatur, trying to catch a few. I never thought I would say this, but it is too hot to fish. I was out at 07:00 and by 09:00 it was already 100 with a heat index of 105 . The water temp was 92. The only good thing was this is the first time I have taken my little boat out after fixing the motor. The motor ran like a top. I did more riding than fishing, cause the wind felt good. Hopefully in a couple of weeks the temp will drop a little and the bite will be back. Good luck to those who can bare this heat, be careful!! Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I had the same problem this morning. I live in san diego and went out at about 6 am to fish. By 8 am it was already way too hot and getting humid. I was sweating. I did end up catching 5 bass though even though 4 of them were dinks. At 8 i decided to come home. I might go out again in the evening. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 15, 2007 Super User Posted August 15, 2007 I talked with my partner who has been guiding below Pickwick Dam the past three days. Air temperature 106-107, 92 degree water and 2-3 stripers PER 8 hrs! Pittiful. It's too hot to fish the river. Quote
Blue Eyed Fisher Chick Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I hear ya about being to hot. It was in the high 90's if not 100 when I went 2 weeks ago and it was ridiculous. I had a blast, but dang was it hot. But that's when you jump in and cool off....even with high water temps, it still feels good for a min. Defiantly becareful to all those who are out there fishing in the heat !! Drink lots of water!!! Quote
Lightninrod Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Y'all don't know heat until you've been on middle Georgia asphalt in August..... Bass will still bite if they see the 'right' bait at the right depth though . Dan Quote
BadKarma42 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Heat+Low Water+Lack of active fish=time on the couch+ Quote
electrikal Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Dang straight !! I've been sidelined (wife broke a leg and needs alot of assistance)maybe a blessing :-? but did get to go out below Wilson from the bank. Caught one 3 1/2lb LM. She promised I'd get to go out this weekend early so hot or not " Who cares, I'm going fishing!" Quote
the captain Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 That's why I like fishing creeks that I can wade in when you is in the water you ain't as hot. Even if you do get hot you just find a deep hoe and get fer a dip after you fished it out... Quote
fisherboy Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 decatur in what state? texas by any chance Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Guys is it just me or does this summer seem much hotter than the previous summers at least accross the United States. It seems all over the country its hot and I dont remember it being this hot in a long time over such a large area. Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted August 15, 2007 Author Posted August 15, 2007 Decatur, Alabama. It does seem alot hotter the past few years, but I am also older. I have been fishing from the bank(plenty of shade) alot in the early mornings and catching some young ones. Quote
bighed Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Yep, too dang hot! Went back to Lake Fork Sunday with my son Chad. Got on the lake by 7:30 and by 9:30 I was dripping like a leaky faucet. By 10:30 I knew I couldn't drink enough water to keep it up so headed for home. Got home and had to go work on one of my truck's tires for a few minutes. By this time it was 104. While unbolting the wheel I could smell the rubber burning in the sun. I'll take a little break until the temps drop back into the 90's I think. big Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Well today was our 7th day in a row that the tempature got over 100 degrees. The heat index is about 120 Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted August 16, 2007 Super User Posted August 16, 2007 I'm crying about 85-90 deg temps and you guys are dealing with 100+ I guess I need to feel happy I'm not dealing with THAT! Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted August 16, 2007 Super User Posted August 16, 2007 Even if you do get hot you just find a deep hoe and get fer a dip after you fished it out... Muddy, ohhhhhhhhhhhh muddy....... Where are you for this one.... Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted August 16, 2007 Super User Posted August 16, 2007 Captain, hey blood, you ain't talking about one of my hoe's are you? You mess around with one of my hoe's without payin me up front and I'll cut you up real bad. Quote
BoroBass Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Y'all don't know heat until you've been on middle Georgia asphalt in August..... I'm a little farther south but I can still vouch for you. It's been insanely hot for 2-3 weeks now so I haven't been able to do much fishing (when I have it was almost pointless). School started this week too, so the heat pretty much killed the last few chances of my summer to fish. I did schedule my earliest class MWF at 11am so I could go fishing before class when it cools down though. Quote
