well me and my wife got to elephant butte friday night and we had about an hour to fish that night. i had a couple of hits and that was it. so we decided to get up real early in the morning to go try some topwater we get to the lake and the bass are jumping like crazy like out of the water totally so we try topwater but nothing. i decide to put on a white strike king spinnerbait with silver blades and we would see them jump throw over by them and they would hammer it but we kept  missing them i got one to the bank and it got off. in the meanwhile there was a bass tournament going on and  so my wife was like we gotta rent a boat cuz were going crazy fishing from shore. we rent a paddle boat on a 38,000 acre lake we go to once cove it took 20 minutes to paddle to .the bass were going crazy on minnows i start throwing the spinnerbait lost a couple at the boat then i got two on the spinner and one on a white jig. we were fishing all these bushes in the water idk why the fish were so shallow maybe you guys know. but it was a good trip. oh and how much do you think they weigh?

I'd say that there all about 2 lbs.  Whats up with the holes in the mouth on the top one?

thats when i set the hook with the spinner bait i set it pretty hard.

Might of been why you were losing them.  That looks like a pretty good size hole.

Yeah, I know.  Sounds funny, but looking at the size of that hole it wouldn't take to much head shaking to get the hook through it.

Yep.  I've seen guys that IMO, set the hook too hard.  If it's a sharp, quality hook, you shouldn't need to 'wham' them ;).  I too think you caught some very nice 2lbers and great pics btw!

Anybody that catchs fish from Elephant Butte wins my respect.     Thats one sad mud hole most of the time.    West Texas doesn't have much water to begin with.

no trailer hooks because when i put them on i seem to never get bit but as soon as i take them off i get bit. anyone else have that problem.

I don't like trailer hooks either.  Same thing as you, I think its a confidence thing.  I don't normally have a problem with hook-ups on spinnerbaits anyways.  So I think when I add the trailer hook i'm worried about the action, hanging up, or collecting weeds.
