Super User fourbizz Posted August 5, 2007 Super User Posted August 5, 2007 Had a pretty good weekend! It was real tough during the day, but I did manage this 4lb 14oz smallie on a Harshhedz shakey head. It is my official smallie pb! At night the bite was real good! I was dropshotting when the sun went down, and as the night progressed I had a hard time putting that rod down and "trophy hunting". But I did manage this 6lb 12oz beauty, which is the biggest fish I have ever caught on a drop shot! Good times! Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 5, 2007 Super User Posted August 5, 2007 Not bad on a sissy stick Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 That's a sweet sissy combo though. Nice pb's man Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 6, 2007 Super User Posted August 6, 2007 Way to go! That smallmouth sure is purdy! Nice fish! Quote
Guest avid Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I used to hate spinning tackle, but ya gotta love it for dropshottin. way to go biz. Quote
Super User David P Posted August 6, 2007 Super User Posted August 6, 2007 Nice fish man, I still haven't managed a fish over 10in on a drop shot! Can't keep the little ones off it. Congrats man Quote

mattm Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Wow that is a fat smallie . I got excited though. I thought I was about to see 13-15 lbs largemouth. Quote
basspro48 Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Sissy stick+sissy rig= big ol bucketmouth Nice fish fourbizz Quote
joe bag o donuts Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Nice fish, but I wanna see a better picture of the 'sissy stick'. Is it a custom build? Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted August 6, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 6, 2007 joe, its not a custom, it is a Powell MAX 702 ml fast. i usually have a daiwa sol 2500 on that rod, but that reel has an annoying noise coming from it, so the tierra 2000 got the nod for the weekend. RW, I really do love smallmouth, but there is just something about a big largie whacking a giant bait, that just really does it for me. That was a whole lot of fun. I reel set into that largie and felt the weight and how slow it was moving, and i turned to my buddy and said, i think its a big one...... 2 seconds later: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG! Which balances better on that rod, the 2000 series or the 2500? I'm thinking about getting that rod or a Dobyns 702 mostly for split-shotting, and now I'm debating between the 2000 and 2500 sized reels. And most importantly, how does the sissy stick handle 1/8 oz and under? Quote

Well that's just the difference in what we both like about catching bass. I admire the fish you and Fish Chris catch, but landing a monster in 3-4 minutes is just not my kinda fun. Don't get me wrong, I'm not that silly...I would LOVE to catch a giant Cali bass, but for everyday fishing what I enjoy is light tackle and a 15- 20 minute battle with a fish that REALLY has a chance. Smallmouth are only half done when you get them to the boat for the FIRST time. Largemouth, especially the bigun's, are done early and the way you guys horse them to the boat is just not my deal. (BTW, It's NOT personal, my favorite fisherman of all-time, Bill Dance, "planes" them on his fishing shows, too.) So...Different strokes for different folks. Congratulations on your PB! 8-) Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted August 7, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 7, 2007 RW< 3-4 minutes?!?!? What are you crazy? more like 30 seconds LOL!!! I probably only fought those fish on the light rod for 3 or 4 minutes, but it felt like an eternity compared to what I am used to! Chris, the 2000 size feels better to me, but I like the SOL alot more than the Tierra so I usually use it on that rod. I don't really throw anything lighter than 1/8. I use 1/8 dartheads fairly often and it handles those very well ( with the added weight of a 4.5 -6" worm) I typically dropshot with 1/8-3/16 oz weights and that is what the rod LOVES to throw! The best drop shot rod I have ever used, bar none. Quote
harshman Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Awesome Fish Fourbizz. Makes me very happy to see guys successful on my jig heads. I can't even imagine what it feels like to reel in a smallie that size. We don't get fish like that in my area. Harshman Quote
