Super User Raul Posted October 11, 2008 Super User Posted October 11, 2008 Well i do have some 1/2 for big 10" worms, but don't you think that that's a bit over kill for what I want to throw? Dude, sinker weight is a tool :, what you are going to use dpends on what you want the bait to do and if such is the better suited for the situation, place and location, where you got the idea that 1/2 oz sinkers are only for the big baits ? Explain over kill? Kiddo can 't lift his rod. Quote
Holden Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 The bullet weight may only be 3/16ths, but the bait itself is also going to add plenty of heft. You should have zero problems casting this.I always throw the lightest bullet weight I can get away with. It gives the bait a more natural look on the fall and retrieve. Amen. Quote
microsat Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 I cast zoom trick worms weightless with a 3/0 ewg on a mh St.Croix casting rod with 15 pound cxx and a daiwa zillion. Tt goes about as far as I can cast it on a medium light spinning real with 8 pound cxx and a diawa spinning real don't remember the model. Thats probably lighter than what you are planning to throw. May I ask what rod you used for lighter lure? What is its lure weight range marked on the rod? Quote

It says the max wight is 1/4, but I have cast weightless 6" tiki sticks with a 2/0 Gamakatsu hook. Quote
Big-O Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 I can cast most creature baits with no weight at all only a hook.Allen exactly Big O Quote
jared... Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 you should be ok. just go out in the yard before you go out and make a few practice casts to make sure. Quote

I just have better luck that way, it's not just "what I think" it's what I have had success with! I have tried using light and heavy weights with smaller and bigger worms, but I get bigger bites when I use a smaller weight with smaller bait and bigger weights with bigger baits, 1/2 is just what they seem to like with 10" worms. bass wrangler569 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I frequently go as light as 1/8oz so as long as you have your reels adjusted properly you should be fine with 3/16 oz. lures. Quote

I don't know off the top of my head the low end they are rated for but I know the high end is 1 ounce. Think the daiwa zillion has more to do with it than anything. Quote
kikstand454 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 i was thowing a weightless fluke on my diawa 100h on a mh 6.6' shimano rod all day sunday and was casting just fine. also.... threw a 3/16 weighted paddletail (always)for the rest of the day on my quantum kvd and its as natural as breathing. you can do it!!!!!
