Super User fourbizz Posted July 8, 2007 Super User Posted July 8, 2007 Got a chance to go fishing with one of my buddies Friday. I got a pretty good bite on a swimbait and when she came up and tried to headshake, i almost s*** myself. Unfortunately life has been hard on this old girl. Despite being 27 inches long and having a 14lb head, she only read 9lbs 10 ozs. She was not in very good shape . So I tried to be as gentle on her as I could and got her back in the water to live out her days, which I think are numbered. BUT she is in my top 5, and my first big fish on that particular bait and lake! A little bit later I got this fish to chew also. She smashed my bait and fought well. Although she is a little thin, she is in good shape and will bulk back up this fall/winter when more trout become available. She went 7lbs 4ozs. I called her to the ounce before I weighed her too It was a great trip and I can't wait to do it again! P.S. I also caught this one earlier in the week at a different lake on a jig 5lbs 9ozs Quote

Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted July 8, 2007 Super User Posted July 8, 2007 I think you should get a little more creative with the pics. You know like ... "Got out there just before a big cold front moved through" ;D Nice cathn' Quote
Super User T-rig Posted July 8, 2007 Super User Posted July 8, 2007 Those are still very good fish even though they are thin. That first fish looks perfectly healthy to me exept she hasn't eaten for a while. Are there any other fish in that lake besides trout? Seems like there is a lack of food in that lake. Congrats! Quote

Agree , it seems that there is lack of food in the lake but still is strange that the fish can grow up that big. in Cyprus we have our dams packed with baitfish and bass over 6lb are rare. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 8, 2007 Super User Posted July 8, 2007 Great catches! You did good!! Keep it up and sending us those photos!!! Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted July 8, 2007 Author Super User Posted July 8, 2007 T-rig, I know she doesn't look too bad in that pic, that is why I chose that one. But she was so skinny and humpbacked that she looked like a crescent. I have her stomach turned towards me a little bit in that pic. Nevertheless it was a blast. And there is always the very faint hope that she will bulk back up this winter and be a flippin toad. KU, I love that picture! saved it to my hard drive! sow i will have something to show the people that ask if it gets cold fishing in the dark in winter lol! Quote

FivePoundBluegill Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Looks like you had a great trip....I have never caught 2 largemouths over 6 pounds in one outing before....yet again i dont go out long. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted July 10, 2007 Super User Posted July 10, 2007 Nice fish man!! Fourbizzle, do you catch more or your bigger fish at night in the summer months? The reason I ask is I have never night fished for bass and I'm thinking about starting to on the weekends. The lake I mainly fish has some real toads in it but I can only catch them in the spring for the most part. :-/ Quote
Guest avid Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Yo Bizz, Nice Bass. Nice Bass Nice Bass. did I leave anything out ;D Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted July 11, 2007 Author Super User Posted July 11, 2007 Watch it Avid. I don't have to take that kind of talk from you. I am not a fish object. Thats fishual harassment, and I don't have to take it! ;D Jimzee, The last time I went to the lake during the day was over a month and a half ago. Of course I might catch the last few hours of daylight, or maybe the first hour or two at the end of a long night, but I don't have much desire to daytime fish and deal with 105+ degree temps, crowds, and pleasure boaters. Not to mention, at the lakes I have been fishing, your shot at a truly large fish in the daytime is WAYY lower than at night. There are still a bunch of situations/lakes that can kick big fish during the day, the few that I have been fishing, arent really like that! Quote
Fish Chris Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Hey Biz, nice fish ! Every time I see a really long, slender fish with a really big frame, I have to wonder if it really would have been "fat" in the pre-spawn ? But I have to believe that fish are a lot like people. Some will just always be longer, and thinner, while others will always be shorter and fatter.... Just like, you have been slender all this year, and I've been fat :-) I think the spawn does matter, but maybe not as much as some might think. Either way, looks like you had fun :-) Congrats, Fish Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted July 12, 2007 Author Super User Posted July 12, 2007 Just like, you have been slender all this year, and I've been fat :-) LOL!!!! I understand what you are saying. I was with Steve (our ichthyologist buddy) and he said it was the ugliest fish he had ever seen and very sickly. Here is another picture that shows her massive head and concave belly. Don't forget that i'm a tall lanky bastich and those hands can palm a basketball very very easily. Quote
