Super User Alpster Posted July 10, 2007 Super User Posted July 10, 2007 We gave em a try at Lake Assunpink this morning. Hit the water at sunup. It was a beautiful day, just pretty HOT at about 95 degrees. Matt & I (experienced bass fishermen LOL) were pounding the shoreline cover and coming up empty. Jim (Matt's dad) a casual bass fisherman, turned his seat around and fished deep and had a bass in the boat in no time. I got one on and on the second jump she spit my "***" back in my face. Got my heart pumpin anyway. A little later Jim had another one in the boat and Matt & I are crying in our skunk soup LOL. We struggled the rest of the morning with a lot of hits, bumps, short strikes, half worms and no bass. I was impressed with Matt. Most young guys will get discouraged when the action is slow, but Matt is a tough young fisherman. He chose the right baits for the conditions and fished them like a pro, with a 'never give up' attitude. I finally broke out a fly rod and landed a couple of bluegill to avoid getting skunked altogether. We had to call it a day just before noon so Matt's dad could make a prior commitment. All in all, it was a good morning on the water. We didn't load the boat, but we had sunshine, calm water, great fellowship and the constant hope of a strike on the next cast. We'll get em next time! I hope we get to do it again! Ronnie Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Yup, me and my dad had a great time. You guys already know this: Ronnie is one great guy! It was warm and toasty and the bite was slow but, quote: "Its better to play and lose than to not play at all." I threw the whole kitten kabootle but to no avail. I had some topwater action early and was getting pick ups on a T-rigged lizard in the later mourning but didn't manage to hook any. Once the lake heated up like a oven our pattern was a downward spiral. However, I wasnt the only one who got skunked. Ron's fly-caught panfish dont count. ROFL ;D We got to go again, and this time, we wont go easy on the poor bass. Thanks Aplster! Matt Quote

Low_Budget_Hooker Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 That's awesome, glad you guys got to meet up. This sounds like how I learned to fish a jig. I got sick of catching small fish throwing at the bank while dirk threw off the opposite end of the boat catching fish twice the size of mine,...consistently. A guy can only take so much of that!! Bright sunny days,...go deep!!! Deep grass especially Ronnie,....you mind as well build a little pen for that skunk, ...looks like he's taking a liking to your company! I mean, I don't blame him, but......what gives??? Watch,..2nd, 3rd week in November,....NJ state record on a fly rod!! I'm thinking your saving all your mojo for that 1 cast Quote

Ronnie Yeah I really ticks me off when he goes on his anual fishing trip, does everything wrong, and catches more bass than me. : ;D Quote
