Very cool.  Caught one yesterday morning, in the dark.  Brought the fish in (small one) and traced the line down to the jaw.  Grabbed the jaw and continued tracing the line to the hook.  It was stuck,....but wasn't embedded in any flesh.

In the dark, How trippy is this???

That's my red hook, caught in the snell loop someone had cut off from a previous gut hook.

Now that's unique.

Curious.  How did this story end?

That's too cool.  It is like you were sent by some mysterious force to go fish at that particular time and spot just to catch and help that fish out.

Well, I got the trusty "remove anything" Rapala pliers out and this hook was too deep even for them so, seeing as how it was feeding fine and all, I got my knife out (because the cutting part on the pliers cant get at the "root" of line) and cut the snell as close as I could to the gullet before releasing her back to the night.

WTG Russ!!!  You da man!

Dan

I think it's safe to say that Matthew is the man, removing that jig head from what looks to be a very uncomfortable and possibly life threatening spot.

Nice save Matthew!!

matthewj52001 tht photo makes me angry...who would do that to a fish they caught.....

My guess would be it snapped the line and then digested the jighead.  I caught a bass with a hook coming out of the anus and a split shot and worm completely hanging out.  It happens.
