Super User fourbizz Posted June 4, 2007 Super User Posted June 4, 2007 What a freakin trip dudes!!! My buddy Adam and I made an after work night trip to a lake that I have not been to in awhile. We went Wednesday. We got off work at about 3 and made it to the lake in time to catch a little bit of the evening bite. We both picked up a few 2.5's on jigs before darkness set in. The sun set with the moon already up and nearly full. I top watered until it was as dark as it was gonna get and then picked up the big worm. I was running my 7' Lamiglas 6 power (very heavy stick!) with 65lb braid. First cast I chuck out and wait for my bait to hit bottom. After a couple little pops I get a couple quick, light taps. To me, this usually signifies a small fish, which just tear up these big, expensive baits. So I wait for it to drop the bait. It doesn't, I get one more tap and say screw it. I reeled down until I felt weight and DRILLED her as hard as I could. POW! I am dazed for a split second as I realize that my rod has just snapped off at the handle! I throw the handle and reel down and grab the rest of the rod out of the water. Then I start hand over handing the line. There is no resistance at first, then I catch up with her! After a few hand over hands, braid digging in, she comes up and jumps. She looks good, at least 6lbs. My buddy is soon at hand with the net and after some nerve wracking jumps she finally goes into the web. She's not six, she's not even 8, she's BIG. Now I am somewhere between laughing, yelling, or passing out. I take control of the fish as Adam deals with the giant mess of broken rod and 50ft of tangled up braid. Then he starts gathering up the camera and scale. I've got her in the water, and finally have a chance to check her out. She's good! She might be a double digit! Hang her on the scale and she shoots up to 11lbs 6 ounces!!! But it isn't holding steady. I tare (re-zero) the scale and hang her again 11lbs 4 ounces solid!! SWEET! After dipping back in the water while Adam got the camera. I pose for the first shot. The camera flashes and then Adam says " Memory full" I have a 1gig card for that camera. something is wrong. NO mother flippin card! Forgot it at home! BOOOOOOO! My camera has a small built in memory and I clear the pictures of a 5 that i never got off the camera. He also grabs my back up disposable. We get a few pictures on each camera and she is off back to the depths. carnage I don't have a USB for my camera anymore, and as it turns out they are impossible to find in stores. I even went to Fry's (size of wal mart but only electrronics) and nothing. I found one online but it is not here yet. But I just got the couple pictures off of the disposable and they are OK. I'll update when I get the good ones off of my digital. Thanks Fish Chris for the advice of always having a back up camera. That one has been in my bag for 8months unopened. I was sure glad to have it! Stoked! Double digit on a worm! Quote

mattm Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 I wish buckeyeassasin was still a member. This is exactly why you always should have a camera. That way when you tell a story that sounds like complete BS you can prove it. Great fish man. I can't believe you were able to get that thing in. Quote
Fish Chris Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Yea' buddy ! :-) That's a hawg ! Hey, as a matter of fact, I broke my rod on an 11 plus, once myself.... the first DD of my life :-) Congrats ! Stay on em' ! Fish Quote
Lightninrod Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 FB: Freakin' AWESOME DUDE!!! What a lovely sight that 11+ pounder must have been when you got her to your side! Any cuts on your hands from the braid? Dan Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted June 4, 2007 Author Super User Posted June 4, 2007 Thanks everybody! I spent the last four days high as a kite after that one! I really don't like that picture, makes her look small. I'll get some better ones soon I hope. Dan, somehow I managed to get away without any real bad cuts. Couple little tiny ones, but she had some gnarly teeth and drew blood on my palm and thumb! EDIT: I can't spell. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 4, 2007 Super User Posted June 4, 2007 Wrong. I look forward to some more pics, but there is nothing "small" about the hawg in that picture. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted June 4, 2007 Super User Posted June 4, 2007 Awesome fourbiz!! Beautiful fish and a great story! I hope when I catch my DD bass I don't just drag her to the boat. I want have to climb over something and swim few yards with a broken pole and fin in my ear. LOL ;D Good job! Ronnie Quote
mattm Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 I agree with RW if that HAWG looks small in that pic I want to see the other ones like right now. Thats probably the best TRUE fishing story i've ever heard. Quote
Gotta Love It Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Great fish and a great story! Sucks that the rod broke but it makes an even more memorable catch! Quote
Supermat Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Congrats again homes! That's sick. I swear, if Steve hand lines one this little group of misfits is going to really have some issues. Quote
cpvenom Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 WOW. I have had to handline one or two myself, but nothing nearly that big. Very nice! Quote
