-badhabit- Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Hurricane winds ran everyone in again and I stayed out the same as last time. Some people just don't know the wind is their friend if they use it right, This one is only a little over 9 lbs and they are still full of roe the same as the 10.3 lb'er I got last Tuesday (when every one ran from the wind). I guess they just leave more for me. (and G-Blanks rods rock!) ;D Quote
JayW Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Nice Bass! If you don't mind me asking... what depth are you finding the big fish in right now? I'm just curious. Quote

Thanks, Mostly 3' - 6' in the grass away from the banks where deep water access is real close. They have been active in the middle of the day mostly which has been strange for as hot as it's been. Wow, that is kinda strange. I need to get back out on the water. It's been almost 3 weeks now! Thanks for the info! Quote

bassn4life Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 hey badhabit i have those buzz'n gators and have had some serious hits but am having troublw with the hook set. What hooks are you using and also how are you rigging them? I am using a t-rig but the back seems to keep splitting. Any tips would be great! thanks! Quote
Guest avid Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Great fish, But I'm not sure what you mean "using the wind". I understand when it's breezy or even windy. By my standards that's up to 25mph, but 20- 25mph is whitecapping the lake. How much higher than that will you fish, and how do you use this high wind to your advantage? PS> Where are you getting your g blanks? I'd like to check em out. thanks avid. Quote

Hi - Bitters has a good frog hook that works well with them T-rig style. I push the hook all of the way through then bring it down flush with the top to make it as weedless as possible. I have also used 5/0 weedless hooks with a wire guard with success on these also. But I'm not sure what you mean "using the wind". Hi avid 20 - 25 mph is about the tops I can stand also. I fish mostly offshore structure like grass beds, trees, eel grass, etc.. anyway, so I like a little wind to drift fish this kind of structure. I'll pull the boat to one side then drift accross casting into the structure then when I get to the other side I will motor back around and move over 50' or so then drift accross again. If I'm fishing near the banks I will concentrate on the windy side during the cool months and the calm side during the summer. When the wind blows accross a lake it moves the top part of the water to one side and draws up water from the bottom on the calm side to replace the water it blew to the windy side. So in the summer the calm side will have a constant flow of cooler water coming up from the bottom and in the winter months the windy side will be warmer from the wind blowing the water the sun has warmed to that side. Drifting also lets you use the trolling motor very little if at all so there is an added sneak factor to it. Also with me being a clutz the wind helps cover up any noise I make make in the boat and it also distorts what the fish see above the water which will allow you to get a little closer to the fish without spooking them. I hope this helps explain my disfunctional logic a little. You can get the G-Blanks here http://www.imaginationbassin.com/gblanksproducts.htm (that is George Welcome's site) and he also lists them here sometimes http://search.ebay.com/ws/search/SaleSearch?from=R9&fstype=1&sass=lgmitch58&from=R9&ssPageName=STRK:MEFSRCH:SRCH. I just e-mail Larry with what I want and he has the rods made for me at my specs for no extra charge. I just ordered another a few days ago. Dave Quote
