Super User fourbizz Posted May 27, 2007 Super User Posted May 27, 2007 These are a few fish from the last couple trips. This one went 5-13 on a black Skinny Bear jig w/ blue craw This fish weighed about twice as much as the bait... HIGH FIVE! This one went 5-4. My best friends new PB at 7-12 again on the black jig w/ blue trailer. I love night fishing. You get to fish spots that are normally covered in trout bankers, there aren't any yay-hoos waking you out, its not balls hot, its calm, quiet, and the big fish are chewin! Oh yeah and the fact that i can squeeze in ten or twelve hours of fishing between work! Sweet! Quote
OBX-BASS Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 that looks like its a blast!!! i have never tried it before. I think im gonna have to soon though. Do you guys usely use darker colored baits? I have always been told that if you try to night fish to use darker colored lures....is that always true? Quote

I have always been told that if you try to night fish to use darker colored lures....is that always true? Black isnt the only color bass can see at night, just the one that stands out the most. Ive caught night bass on a variety of different colors than black. But black does seem to work best. Fourbizz gj and nice fish.....Is that the new S-pro bbz 1-? Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted May 27, 2007 Author Super User Posted May 27, 2007 Thanks guys, I don't think that black baits are neccesary, but I do use them alot of the time. noise and water displacement can be just as critical as color. Mike thats a 3:16 armageddon. Quote
Fish Man Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 great lookin fish...i really want to try night fishing BTW...i saw that lure on the internet, as much as it costs what do you do if you lose that thing? Quote
JayW Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Looks like a lot of fun. I used to do some night Bass fishing, but haven't in years. :-[ Quote
Guest avid Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 Way to go bizzster!! I'll be night fishing soon. Can you give some more details about the jig and trailer? rattles? hopping, dragging, swimming??? Thanks avid. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted May 27, 2007 Author Super User Posted May 27, 2007 When I nightfish, usually I do it EXTREEEMELY slow with jigs and big plastics. But these fish were eating an aggressive moving bait very well, so we got to cover alot of water. When I fish super slow I use light weight. But lately it has been neccessary to use heavy stuff. The jigs are football heads with the weedguard trimmed down to just a couple strands so the trailer doesn't tangle and NO rattle. I am using 3/4 and 1 ounce weights. The lake is fairly steep walled and rocky. I was popping the jig very sharp and fast twice then letting it fall down, rest for a split second then pop it again. They would eat it on the fall or just as it touched down so you had to keep a fairly tight line, but at the same time not allow it to pendulum too much. I don't know if this method will work in your florida lakes, because I felt like i was relying on the structure to give me the extended fall and the rocks to make the noise as the jig hit. We have had at least 25 fish a night doing this and its a blast! Quote
Pike_Master Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Whoever said they havent gone night fishing SHOULD.i went out last night into the Erie canal in spencerport Ny.caught my first smallie of the year on a gillspinner with a jighead and a emerald shiner*the ones u get in the bags at wal-mart* and as explained its very quite aint got other people around u usually and its a blast! ;D Quote
jayhawkfishin Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Have you ever lost one of the 3:16 armageddon. I would be swimming for that bait. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted May 28, 2007 Author Super User Posted May 28, 2007 Its a floater and I use 25lb CX Xtra strong, so I'm not real worried about losing it. The only thing I really worry about is parking it in the rocks in the dark or that giant that eats it boatside. I haven't had it long, and that five is the first decent fish I've got on it yet. But I intend to change that soon When you get a big backlash with these baits, they often break off on the cast. I've only lost one bait this way, but I would hate it to be any of my sinking hardbaits. Quote

Lightninrod Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Excellent catchin' young man!!! Big Baits; Big Bass! Dan Quote
kiss my bass Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Nice fish Fourbizzle! I'm gonna have to try that soon! Kiss My Bass Quote
Mattlures Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Very nice Fbizz. I love to night fish and I use very similatr tactics. I also think color is unimportant at night. Every body says black, and black does work but so does every othey color except glow. I like slow waking swimbaits, buzzbaits, big worms and creatures. I am just more comfortable fishing at night. jomatty Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 tell us more about that armageddon i read an article about it and it sounds pretty incredible. at $250 or whatever it certainly should be. how do you like it compared to the other big hardbaits and do you see enough of a difference to warrant the extra $$? just curious, matt Quote
Captain Cali Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Night fishing rules! Nice wakebait fish. I'm still struggling with the technique. I should just leave everything else at home. Interesting about the rattles. You emphasized "NO rattles". You're getting bit more with no rattles eh? Are there times that you do use rattles at night? Quote
CyBasser Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Great nightime fish! Night fishing rules! ? Absolutely! I wish it was legal over here, with the current regulations we are only allowed about 30 minutes of complete darkness... Interesting about the rattles. You emphasized "NO rattles". You're getting bit more with no rattles eh? Are there times that you do use rattles at night? Hmmm, that got me intitially by surprise. But then we do catch fish in darkness on such silent lures such as weighless senkos, so maybe the bass don't really need an extra noise to home in on their food during darkness.... Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted June 2, 2007 Author Super User Posted June 2, 2007 Took awhile to respond, but anyway: I'm not very confident in rattles. The water is real clear and I think that it was making enough noise in the rocks. jomatty, The Armageddon absolutely ROCKS!!! Is it worth it? Heck yes it is. But it is all relative I guess. If you had told me a year ago that I would own as many $100+ baits as i do, i would call you nuts! I absolutely love night fishing! I have an EPIC tale to tell you guys. I'm just waiting on photos!
