Guest avid Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 I spent 9 hours on the water today. it was one of the rare days for late May. Cool, high temp only about 81 degrees. Breezy of course, but nothing like yesterday, and no rain or thuderstorms. It was absolutely a perfect fishing day. Except the bass were few and far between. Part of the slow pickens was that I wanted big fish, so didn't use senko's or any finesse baits. Except one. I have this "thing" I won't change a lure till I make one more cast with it. I had one of muddymans favorite crankbaits, the bagley small fry bream, and though I was intending to change it for something bigger, my one cast hit paydirt and I got a decent 1.5 lber. I fished alot of swimbaits. Mattlures baby bass and bluegill, 3:16 mission fish, and the hud. No takers. I did have 3 fall to the black/blue 1/4 terminator pro series jig w/zoom fat albert twin tail trailer. Nothing big, but it's always fun when the jig bite is on. I did score one 5.25 lber. It came on an old wiggle wart. My shoulders are aching from tossing the swimbaits, but if tomorrow's weather is like today, I'm going out again. I tried to take a picture using the time delay feature but screwed it up. It looked just like a 5.25 lb bass. Quote
Lightninrod Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Man, you way outdid me today. All I could catch were 4 or 5 dinks; nothing over 1 lb :-[. I still marvel that you are able to cast a Hudd from a canoe ! Keep on keepin' on Avid! Dan Quote
Guest avid Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I still marvel that you are able to cast a Hudd from a canoe I keep tellin' y'all about those spring creek outfitters canoe/kayak stabilizers. They make my 14' old town osprey MORE stable that a 14' jon boat. by extending the stabilizers I add 2 to 4 feet of width to the canoe. My canoe is a little over 3 feet wide. plus the four extra feet from the outriggers (stabilizers) gives me a 7 foot wide boat!!!!!!! Never leave home without em. Quote

I have a 44 lb Trolling motor (mk vector 55 3x) that is SIDE MOUNTED. I will stand while drifting, while slow trolling, and while stopped. I bought the stabilizers because I tipped the canoe. I lost my tackle box (since found) a cell phone and worst of all my eyeglasses. so I began to research. I posted queries on different forums including canoe and paddle forums. Many responders recommended these. they are available at Cabella's but I called Spring Creek directly. They are the nicest people, will help you with sizing, positioning, and will not try to sell you anything. As a matter of fact after telling them how I use the canoe they advised me that I did not need the more expensive model. I have never even come close to tipping since I bought the stabilizers. They are light and install with no tools in about 5 minutes. For me it is the best of both worlds. I can load the canoe in my pickup by myself. but can use a 55 lb thrust TM on a side mount with either a grp 29 or grp 27 battery. Up to six rods, two tackle bags and assorted accessories, and bass fish from the preferred standing position. Trust me on this. These stabilizers are life savers, and will make bass fishing much more relaxed and enjoyable. The only possible downside is that the frame runs accross the width of the canoe. this product gets an Avid Quote
